Doctor thinks husband may have Prostate cancer with mets

My  79 year old husand is being referred for CT scan for ? prosate cancer with mets. HOwever he has never shown any signs and symtons of prosate cancer or mets. His blood test has shown very high PSA levels which is why the Dr thinks he has prostate cancer. Has anyone had experience of this as I am in total shock and very worried about his progosis.

  • Hi Delhi,

Unfortunately I can't answer this question but if you get in touch with our cancer nurses on the number I gave you in my previous post, they should be able to help.

Do be sure to discuss this with your husband's GP and/or medical team as well as they will be in the best position to advise.

    Best wishes to you both,

  • i have just got a psa reading of 17 with doctor saying chances are i could have cancer, after reading your post i feell maybe i will get through it somehow, will get mri in next couple of weeks, although he seemed to think the reading sugested it maybe confined to the prostrate.

  • Hi there is a gent called [@woodworm]‍   who is still on forum now and again his psa was alot higher than yours, hopefully he'll pop on and tell you his story.

Good luck keep positive and safe

  • Hi,

As Billygoat says, My psa was 70 when i was diagnosed. But luckily for me the cancer was contaimed within the prostate. After two years on hormone therapy and 37 radio therapy sessions it dropped down to the lowest they can measure so I was very lucky. It varies slightlu but years on it is still very low.

I wish you the same sort of luck that i have had and hope you go on to make a full recovery

    Best wishes, Brian

  • thanks brian with a reading of 17 maybe it is contained in the prostrate as well, going for MRI  in the next two weeks so will most likely know once results come back, thanks once again for the reply greatly appreciated.

  • Thank you so much. My husband's prostate cancer has spread to the bones in his lungs which apparently is why he is getting pain below his right rib and sometimes in the back.  His total alkaline phosphatase was 213 u/l indicating bone cancer.  We will know definitely after his CT, MRI and bone scans how bad it is.  He stated on hormone tabs last Friday. I am so devastated especially as Mike  although 79 years old was so healthy, played tennis three times a week and badminton once a week.  I am doing everything to keep him in good spirits and thank goodness I do have some very specail family and friends to support me. I would love to know if there is anyone there with similar spymptons to Mike and  how they managed their journey.

  • Just been having a look at my old notes. I've kept them all for future reference, in beginning my ALP was over 800,over 3 months of treatment went to 250 ,remember that's my own experience, things can vary greatly.

Sorry i can't find any one else like us still on forum last one i found was 4 months ago, if you want to check, go to top of any string open search in the thick blue line and enter what you are looking for, (EG prostate cancer mets).

Hope hubby is feeling more positive. It really helps.

  • HI just to say that Mike had his Decapeptyl injection this afternoon and will be repeated in 6 months time. Not sure why the long delay of 6 months?. Has anyone had the same injection as Mike please?. I would love to hear your experience as this is all so new to us. Thanks

  • I started just after first diagnosed but every 12 weeks (three months),afraid don't know why different.

Still having hot flushes after 6 years, worse in summer heat.

Sometimes bottom sore for couple of days depending which nurse does it.

    No other side effects.

I usto shave once a week when started treatment, before cancer, twice a day to look tidy.
