Delay to breast core biopsy results....

I had a core breast biopsy at the end of march and was booked an appointment 10 days later to collect my results

The day before results day I had a call saying the results weren't back yet and they added an extra week waiting time , so now due to get them this Friday.

Anyone else in a similar situation? I don't know if the delays are due to Covid related staff shortages (which would make sense ATM) or because they found something than needs further tests?

I just wish they had told me why they were delayed! Naturally I would be a lot less concerned if I knew it was due to staff shortages....

If anyone has had a similar experience at this current time?

  • I had a biopsy 5 weeks ago for possible melanoma and they did tell me at the time it could take up to 6 weeks.  The waiting is awful.

  • Hi Nikster,

The waiting is awful, it invades your thoughts even when you try not to think about it. I must admit in the daytime it's not a problem- it's when I wake in the night and all around me is quiet that the thoughts come to the forefront.  Have you been given a follow up appointment? At least if you have that it's something to work towards.

You're not alone in this horrible waiting game.

  • Hi,

Exactly that,  I try to think positive but I did ask the dermatologist if he thought it was cancer to which he said yes. He was called n by my original dermatologist for a 2nd opinion which got my alarm bells ringing.

Unfortunately not heard anything back, no letter or anything so will be phoning again tomorrow. I'm trying to be patient as I realise they are busy but I just feel my life is in limbo .

  • Hi,

Yes calling up for your results is probably the best thing to do. I will probably call my surgeons secretary again at the start of next week, I have not waited as long as you have, but it doesn't harm to let them know that you do want to know your results, and sometimes they will give you information that you may not have got yet, like if the results go to MDT or if an appointment is on its way to you.

Please let me know how you get on.
