Fast track gynaecologist appointment

Just been for my smear test the nurse couldn't get to my cervix she eventually did but said that there was a large growth in the way. The whole procedure was really painful (not so on previous occasions) anyway I have been 'fast tracked' to the Gynae department.  I'm 56 still having regular periods (up until 6 weeks ago) no intermittent bleeding ir pain.  I'm really worried that it's something serious. It was the nurses face and reaction when she saw what ever she saw that has really scared me.  She was very professional and told me not to worry but.......I'm sure others on here have experienced this too would welcome honest experiences xx

  • Hi Jinkycat

I can definitely appreciate your concern after this experience you’ve had. I’m not sure we should ever read too much into expressions and looks from medical staff, but I understand your worry, since I’ve been through similar.

But the gynaecologist is the one who’s going to be able to have some further answers. If something has been seems, then the gynaecologist will see it too, and will likely take a biopsy. That will give a definitive answer, and nothing else until then can do that, unfortunately.

I hope you don’t have too long to wait until your appointment. xx

  • Thank you Minska. I know it's a waiting game just needed to reach out. My hubby is away on business tonight we've spoken but I haven't told him because I know he'll worry and come rushing home. Think I just needed to tell someone as all come as a bit of a shock, don't expect that when you go for a routine smear xx
