Referral Anxiety

Hi all,

I'm 35 and recently found a lump in my breast. My GP has referred me and I have an appt for 15th Feb. Like many of you on here, I'm extremely anxious, I have a young family and my mum has previously had breast cancer so it also suffers a lot the emotions that I went through with her.

Can I ask, anyone who has recently been to an appt, where you able to take someone with you? I'm worried that with covid restrictions, they won't allow you to.

Thank you

K

  • I was referred early December and so far every appointment i have had to attend alone .There was also no visiting for inpatients either. I think they have just started allowing limited visiting at my trust again so I am hoping appointments will allow you to take someone with you again . I think it depends where you live in the country , they all seem to have different rules . I am in west yorkshire .Also I am gyne so I dont know if which clinic you are attending makes a difference .Lets hope everything is back to normal soon

  • Hello

I completely understand your anxiety, I've recently had an urgent referral for a lump in my left breast and I'm really concerned about it. I actually feel a little silly posting on here - I feel like I'm being a hypochondriac, but I can't speak to my husband (he worries too much) and I haven't told anyone else, I don't want my family and friends to worry.

I'm 40, and over the last 5 or so years I've had issues with my right breast - pain, lumpiness and a swollen lymph node that was picked up via mammogram 4 years ago. I've just got used to the fact my breast is lumpy and I don't think much of it anymore. I've also been on HRT for 10 years and know it can affect breast tissue.

However a few months ago I noticed a small firm lump in my left breast which seems attached and not particularly moveable. I thought it would maybe go away so didn't bother to see the Dr until last week. The lump is now bigger, rough feeling and there seems to be additional tissue swelling beside it, which is an odd shape. My breast is also a little swollen.

I have a hospital appointment on 19th, but I'm convinced that something is wrong this time. It just feels different. I wish I could find a way to not think about it.
