Cin3

Hello ladies

Im going around in circles in my head, and came to this forum to see if anyone can shed any light

The other week i attended hospital for a smear test on the back of a 111 call I made for some symptoms I've been getting , such as pelvic pain, lower back ache ,hip pain and some shooting pains in what seems My vagina

I was asked to go to for a colposcopy , at the colposcopy the nurse examined me ,put some solution that I can only explain as a vinegar solution on and had a look in my cervix , a smear was taken only and no biopsys as far as I'm aware.

A few weeks have gone past and I received my results earlier last week , my smear has shown

High grade dyskaryosis cin3 and have been asked to go for a loop procedure,

For the last however many days , because I have a very severe anxiety disorder I've convinced myself that I have cancer of the cervix.

I've spoken to  two doctors, macmillan nurse and the hospital themselves who took my smear test and they are all telling me I do not have cancer ,  I understand my severe anxiety is playing havoc , but everywhere I look on Google and forums I'm getting increasingly more scared because some women are reporting having CIN3 and after the leep procedure they are waiting on results again

I'm at a total loss what to think , and have never been so confused in my life , can anybody please explain to me what exactly is going on.

  • Hi anxiousemma

CIN3 is not cancer , but is an abnormality of the cervical cells which needs to be removed, which is done by the loop procedure. The solution put on your cervix during the colposcopy is to identify these areas of abnormal cells.

The cells which are removed are sent for analysis to confirm that these cells are definitely CIN3 and have all been successfully removed, so yes, you need to wait for results again after the procedure is done. It is possible that some ladies may have to have the procedure repeated if all the cells haven’t been removed.

I appreciate that your anxiety is making you think you may have cervical cancer, but I would be reassured by the doctors telling you that you don’t. It is never a good idea to use google in these situations as the information there may not apply to you and will likely fuel your anxiety further.

Hopefully you will have your appointment for treatment soon, and everything will turn out well. x

  • Hello

    Minska

Thankyou for your reply you put my mind at rest this morning

I'm due to be having this procedure within the next 3 weeks as today I've received my surgery appointment and has been put through as urgent , which again has rang my alarm bells with anxiety

However I am confused because I've now been told I won't be having a loop excision and il be having a cone biopsy.

Is this the Same procedure or is this somthing different ?

Having mixed information from all these letters at the moment  I really wish I was more educated on this as the letters don't explain anything much atall

  • Hi Emma

Try to look on this as positive-you won’t have to wait long for your procedure.

The cone biopsy is not the same as the loop excision. It removes a cone shaped portion of the cervix, so more than the loop and it can remove tissue higher up in the cervical canal.

I don’t know why there is so little information and explanation given to women about these procedures. as it just increases everyone’s anxiety levels. x
