Anastrozole/Arimidex

Just been prescribed these and it seems there are a lot of side effects

Has anyone tried these and not had any side effects?

  • Hi jsue, I have recently been diagnosed with BC which is ER+ so consultant prescribed Anasrozole. I had been on HRT which I stopped as soon as diagnosed and went estrogen cold turkey. I had to have blood tests before starting anastrozole so it was a week later that I started taking it.

I did a bit of reading up and a lot of women suggested taking at night. I’m now 5 days in and was expecting lots of side effects during this time, so far nothing. In fact there has been a massive plus, before I was diagnosed (routine screening) I was diagnosed with massive uterine fibroids that have been causing quite severe sciatica. I have had no real relief from the pain for the last 18mnths until a couple of days ago. It could be coincidence but anastrozole is used to shrink fibroids so maybe I can avoid hysterectomy for a couple of years, when I have got through BC treatment.

  • Thanks for replying

i  will start taking mine this week after speaking to Macmillan nurse. I can’t beleive the amount of side effects listed but I guess you have to see what happens

    Take care x

  • Hi [@jSue56]‍ i started on Anastrozole nearly five months ago. I was 8/8 for ER and PR so really needed to be on it. I was really nervous after reading about the side effects but I am feeling good. I have had maybe half a dozen hot flushes in that time. After two weeks I had a small bit of knee and ankle stiffness but that disappeared soon after. No other side effects at all. I was in a dilemma about whether to take in morning or evening but settled on 10pm and have an alarm on my phone as a reminder. As my oncologist said you don't know if you try and I think a lot of women like me get on fine with it. If you don't you are understandably more likely to post how awful it is. Good luck! Xx

  • Thank you for your reply It’s good to get some reassurance xx
