I'm a 52 year old New Zealander who loves running - hmm how did I come up with my profile name ;-) - and I have been living in the UK since 2008.
After a recall letter on Christmas Eve 2020 - from a screening mammogram - it took me two long months to have a final diagnosis after my breast conserving surgery. This is no reflection on the amazing care I had from my NHS team, but because my type of cancer is rare (about 2% of breast cancers) and notoriously hard to diagnose. I had two results meetings that were inconclusive, three rounds of biopsies and and MRI but it took surgery to finally get to the bottom of it and I am so grateful to have found it so early.
Grade 1 Tubular Carcinoma (3mm - tiny!) with associated 5mm Grade 2 DCIS. Both hiding behind a benign radial scar.
I had five sessions of radiotherapy using the deep breath hold technique as it was left sided breast cancer.
Now on five years of Anastrozole as my cancer was 8/8 for oestrogen and doing well with virtually no side effects
