Invasive ductal cancer

Hi everyone

ive been diagnosed with invasive ductal cancer. Has anyone else had this and what were your treatment afterwards. They've said radiotherapy and 5 years tablets but they will look at chemotherapy after surgery to see if I need this. Anyone else had both. Thank you

  • Hello

I have recovered from IDC stage 2 breast cancer

i had a lumpectomy followed by radiation therapy and tablets for ten years I was diagnosed October 2019 I was  very shocked when I had a mammogram recall and biopsy to confirm the diagnosis thankfully i didn't need  chemo based on the oncotype test results so life is good nowadays the tablets letrozole I find tolerable with minimal side effects it's been a rollercoaster that I'm just now finding my feet in life again .

i hope this information helps you .

  • Are you having side affects from tablets

  • Hi I'm finding the side effects minimal and manageable like joint and muscle aches but nothing that's stopping me from doing daily activities I'm actually more fitter now than I was before I think it's all the extra supplements I'm taking aswell to support the bones and muscle everyone is different and others may not be able to tolerate the tablets but there is options to change onto different ones until you find one that suits .

  • Ok. Thank you for your messages it really helps.

  • Your very welcome just shout out if you need any advice I hope all goes well for you .

  • Hi what supplements are you taking please. I'm awaiting results after lumpectomy and will definitely be going on hormone tablets but not sure which one yet.
    thank you

  • Hi

I have recently finished most of my treatments for IDC but I suspect what you'll find is that people get different treatments depending on size of tumour, location in breast, spread to nodes, age and probably a whole host of other factors.

You can read my treatment on my profile page but probably worth waiting to see what your oncologist believes will suit you.

I'm taking letrozole for 10 yrs as am perimenopausal and now on 3rd brand which isn't proving too bad re aches & pains (unlike the first which was dreadful), I take glucosamine & cod liver oil to help the joints and seems to be improving the joint pain.

    Good luck

  • I'm pre menopause so will I produce more hormones? I'm not really clued up on it all x

  • I'm assuming the tablets that you refer to are hormone blockers as you're either ER or PR+.

If so the tablets will block your hormones as that is what the cancer feeds upon and will create an early menopause - as the menopause basically does what these tablets do but naturally and without some of the side effects!

So in comparison to you, someone who is post menopausal will produce far less hormones (oestrogen) but that said there are still hormone blockers for those who are post menopausal, not all together sure why (maybe there's still some produced or a belt & braces approach?) as my area of "speciality" only extends so far...

  • Hi hope you are recovering well from the lumpectomy

I'm taking letrozole as I've been through menapause if you are pre-menapausel you might get tamoxifen they both do the same thing eradicate the estrogen

I also take iobonic acid tablet first thing in the morning this is to strengthen the bones to avoid osteoporosis which can be caused through lack of estrogen I also take vitamin D and adcal again for bones I take evening primrose capsules this helps with sweating at night I take a multi vitamin and tumeric capsules this helps with joint aches if you get any from the side effects.

    best wishes marie .
