Chemotherapy before operation grade 2 ductal breast cancer

Hi there

New to this, just diagnosed on 27 April, do not know the stage, 4cm lump ductal, grade 2, in lymph node... , have been told I will be getting chemotherapy before a lumpectamy. I looked up I think it's called neo adjuvant therapy?

Really worried my immune system will be shot down before the operation, so might not heal the same/make it!!  All others seem to have to operation and then either chemotherapy or other treatments after.

I kind of understand the reasoning with doing it this way with covid 19...but am absolutely terrified, have any others had treatment this way around please?

Oncologist appt on Monday, so any advice!/help/info would be hugely appreciated!!

Thank you

A.

  • Thank you so much to all who responded, it made me feel so much better to find that this was normal practice.

Your helpful nformation also helped me to be able to do some research and find out some questions I should ask.

I am hoping you might be able to help me again please... . I start FEC-T on Friday and wondered if many others were highly recommended by their Oncologist to have a lower dose of 80mg instead of 100mg.   I understand the lower toxicity effect but am concerned it will not be as effective,... I was told its normal practice, is this right??

    Thank you x

  • Hi Daisy DD38

I've just been diagnosed with grade 2 idc estrogen positive and my lump is roughly the same size as yours so just wondering how your getting on? I'm a mess but trying to remain calm. I'm not doing great.

    Thanks

  • Hi Karen

I hope you don't mind my message to your response. I have just finished my 2nd round of EC chemo after I was diagnosed with pretty much the same as you. I wondered if you have finished your chemo now and have had your surgery? Is the survey difficult to recover from? And have you been put on the hormone therapy?
thanks so much for your advice
