primary diagnosis

i have just received a diagnosis of breast cancer but because of the coronavirus may be faced with a delay in my surgery which is a huge worry as I dont know how long I have already had the tumour, at the moment they are saying 4/5 weeks for treatment but that is dependent on this horrible virus not getting any worse in our area. so many questions I feel I should be asking but dont really know where to start.  I have already been told I will be having radiotherapy and dont know if I will be fit to travel as Iive 2 hours from the hospital so may have to stay in accommodation.  sorry this is a bit of a mixed up rant but dont feel able to show my worry to my family as it will only cause them more concern.  I live on my own as I am widowed.

    Some areas have NHS free transport mini buses. If you check with hospital hopefully they'll help. Good luck with treatment..

    I only waited a week. I am in London and I was told by my surgeon that guidelines are 2/3 weeks no longer and very often before .

    Hi Grianan,

    Sorry about your diagnosis.

    Try not to worry, there's nothing to worry about yet anyway. From first diagnosis it can be some time before any form of treatment starts. As most of us would admit the wait to start treatment is one of the worst bits of having cancer.

    They need to do so many tests to choose the best treatment path for your specific cancer. If the surgery is indicated as critical to your outcome then I'm sure they will operate. However, for those of us that are diagnosed at stage 3 or 4 we tend to start chemotherapy first so are left with our primary lumps there (annoying us) for many months.

    I can't help regarding transport as I live in Jersey, Channel Islands, but others have made suggestions. Always worth contacting Maggies or MacMillan too to see if they have any systems set up to help.
