Hi Is there someone to talk to?

I'm 51 years young and just diagnosed with lung cancer. I'm having a VATs upper left lobe removal Thursday. Unless its gone to lymph nodes, yet to be determined, I'm otherwise free of cancer elsewhere. Does anyone know what the life expectancy is for this? I just dont want to keep bamging on to friends and ive not skeot for months. Its a shock and i have no idea what to think. Thanks

  • Lorna,

No hurry. You will. The weather is indeed terrible and it's very early days. But a bit of fresh air and some nature are good for you mentally.

  • Hi Luna,

my husband who is 75 was diagnosed with lung cancer last May 2019 and like yours, they removed one lobe. He did not need any Chemo and has been given the clear.  All you need to do is your breathing exercises to get your lungs back in shape. I am sure you will live for many more years to come.

  • Thankyou i appreciate that. I have been told i will  have chemo and possibly radio given nature of cancer, despite being stage 1b and ordinarily curable. Not looking forward to this at all but a necessary evil.

    Thanks

  • Hi Sam, I have just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and couple of lobes. Scared as hell.  Just off to my third biopsy. I would like to talk to someone. Can you give me their link please. Thank you. Wishing you all the best and a quick recovery.

  • Hi [@crus]‍

Yep I remember what fun those biopsies can be! The charity is Breast Cancer Now and the service is called 'someone like me", you'll call BCN and they'll take details and match you up with someone depending on what you want to achieve (me, I wanted someone who'd gone through what I was due to for practical advice).

Easy to say but try not to be too scared & hope that the above can allay your fears somewhat, I've been through the treatment now (see my profile for full details) and have come out the other side better for it, happier & healthier...it can happen and a positive attitude really helps.

Good luck with those biopsies & treatment

    Sam
