Partner diagnosed yesterday - heartbroken

Hi All,

I am new to here. My partner was diagnosed with secondary bowel cancer yesterday. We are yet to find the original site. I am heartbroken. I feel devastated but he is being so amazingly strong.

I have done the the one thing you should never do and looked up things online. Everything is saying that you cannot survive when there is secondary cancer. We have a little baby together. I’m so scared.

Please can someone tell me that there may at least bit a tiny bit of hope.

Thanks. Love and best wishes to all.

  • Hi JJ,

I know they say secondary cancer is incurable but it is treatable and people survive for many years with the treatment that he will be given.

i know your head will be full of the worst case scenarios and we have all been there, but the good news is you have found out what was wrong with him and now the experts are going to do something about it. It might be a hard journey but it will be one you can face, together, and there is every reason to believe it will be a long time before what you fear comes about.

You can be stronger than you would ever believe,

    Best wishes to you both

  • Hi Christine,

Thank you so much for your reply. It was greatly needed. Xx

  • Hi  jjlondon,. Don't know if it'll help. My cancer went from prostate to lymph nodes, spine, ribs pelvis and a lung, I was diagnosed in Feb 2016 its not curable but you can live with it, I call it my uninvited guest, I have treatment when needed. Living a normal life. But looking after my disabled wife she needs 24/7 care. Or I'd still be working I'm 67. Good luck to you both... Billy

  • Hi Billygoatt

That’s so amazing to hear. It put a smile on my face and I love you’re nickname for it ‘your uninvited guest’. I can’t begin to tell you how much these messages have helped in a particularly dark hour.

I hope you stay well. You sound like you’re doing great and on top of everything you are continuing to look after you wife. Simply amazing!! Best wishes for the future x
