Endometrial cancer

Hello everyone - world turned upside down with a diagnosis of cancer in womb yesterday. Only went to see GP a week ago about water infection and scan yesterday revealed otherwise. Op arranged in 10 days time so all happening incredibly fast and I’m a bit she’ll shocked and I know I haven’t listened properly to GP etc about what is going to happen so I’m consulting Dr Google which is a stupid thing to do. If anyone has had endometrial cancer post menopause I would appreciate any information especially if it is known to spread. Thank you

  • Bless you thank you for replying, that gives me hope. Thank you so much, its nice to read all the people who understand your fears etc. Thank you again

  • I have posted previously as I was post op following a hysterectomy for endometrial cancer on 8th Oct and awaiting histology reports to see if further treatment, eg radiotherapy was required..

I have a six week consultant appointment on 18th Nov but did not want to wait so long for the result. I e mailed my cancer nurse at the hospital to request that she let me know ASAP if the result came through.

They have a multi disciplinary meeting with relevant people to discuss each case and decide on the way forward once the result is through.

The specialist nurse phoned yesterday to say that they had managed to eradicate the cancer with the op alone and I need no further treatment. Massive relief.

if you are waiting for a result phone or e mail to chase it up.

Also tell all women friends and family to go to their GP for any changes in their body however small,

I had the tiniest whisper of staining on my pants, post menopausal. It would have been so easy to ignore or to "wait and see" but I went straight away and caught it at what has been finally diagnosed as stage 1, grade 1. It was caught so as soon as it possibly could have been.

We all have family committments, work responsibilities, plans or head in the sand attitudes that make us put things off. I had my daughters wedding BUT putting off checking potential cancer risks the disease progressing and being much worse in the long run.

I have had a lucky escape and look forwatd to continuing in good health for many years to come.

  • Hi Nikki

i am awaiting a scan after a polyp removal. I’m told the polyp was late stage cancerous stage 3 but ovaries and endometrium were fine.

Hysterectomy was mentioned. So I’m at the waiting stage for the scan. Now experiencing what feels like severe indigestion which could be anxiety or another symptom?

has anyone experienced cancerous polyp? I would welcome any advice and support

  • Hi,

i had my last period in march 2018 and then a few pink shows and period pain 10 days ago which lasted 2 days, the bleeding was minimal and all stopped by Wednesday, I did go to see my gp and had a vaginal scan today and also seen the specialist after. She told me that a normal thickness should be anything between 4 and 5mm but mine is 5.8mm so she did a biopsy, I am worried but on reading some of your stories on here some of you have thicknesses of about 16mm, surely 5.8mm can't be that bad or are they just being over cautious.

Any thoughts will be appreciated xx

  • Hi Nikki my name is Lesley and I’m at the same stage as you I’m waiting for an MRI next week I am not coping well with the not knowing and have gt myself in an anxious state.  How are u coping xx

  • Hi Lesley

I know exactly how you are feeling. I went through an agonising wait with a roller coaster of emotions. I  ouldnt discuss with anyone my emotions as everyone was just so busy. I found this forum very supportive knowing other people were going through a similar journey as me

My journey started on the 27th of September. I had a gruelling 2 months of tests and waiting and then further tests. I am happy to say after all the trauma the results have been confimed as clear.

Looking back i am glad i had everything checked and all the consultants are doing, is eliminating various factors which may be causing the symtons. My only dissappointment is how it was all managed by my GP and the length of time to report the result. I only found out my result last week because i was doing all the chasing. They had the results from 2 weeks ago but no one could report them to me as the consultant was on vacation. This is quite bad because it is us patients who are anxiously waiting. If the consultant is on holiday and his secretary is not in a position to report the results then surely there should be a back up person. Beside this, the NHS are doing a great job. They explained everything clearly and were surprised the way my GP hadled every thing.

Did you have your ultrasound and then get referred for an mri, or was it after your hysteroscopy? Did you get your hysteroscopy results. I was told it take 2 to 4 weeks for hysteroscopy result.

I met 2 lovey women while i was in the hospital who had  been fast tracked and had a hysterectomy, fortuneately their cancer was in the early stages and because they were fast tracked it had been removed.

Because i have been in the postion you are in, i cant say to you " dont worry" because we will worry.  I had planned the whole process in my mind   i had planned what treatment i would require, how long i may need to be off work etc etc

Please reach out to  me if you need a chat  xx

  • Hi Sally

Not sure if you are still reading posts on this forum. Just to update you, i finally got my results last week after constantly chasing everyone  i have the all clear .however i have enetered another battle where i would like a smear test as i am still spotting but GP is refusing as it can only be done either every 3 years below the age of 50 and every 5 years after 50. Let's see.

I am so happy to have discovered this platform. It was a huge support to me during my journey. The support enabled me to ask questions and know that there are other women feeling the way i did and its ok im not alone.

Remember to keep following up with your GP or consultants.

    Good luck everyone xx

  • Hi Niki.  Ty so much for replying after having bleeding last year and tests I just had polyps and a D and C op done.  This yr I had the same bleeding agn but not as heavy and convinced myself all was ok.  So having the diagnosis has knocked me for six and I Am on tranquillisers to cope.  I am having a mri and ct scan on Monday nxt week then they will plan whichhospital I will go to etc x

  • Hi Lesley

Sorry to hear you have already had the diagnosis. However look at this positively. You are being followed up early. You were checked last year and had the all clear but it's only this year they have identified the cancer. This means it hasnt been lurking around for many years , hopefully it will be in the early stages and simply require a hysterectomy. Or whatever the consultant thinks is necessary.

Did they insert the mirena coil last year? When i went  for my biopsy they inserted the mirena and said it would help with the thickening of the womb.

Please Lesley dont make yourself ill with the worry. Trearment has progressed so much in the past 15 years and we have earlier diagnosis which all good.

    All the best Lesley xx

  • Hi Nicki

Ty so much again for ur reply ..no I wasnt offered the coil maybe because of my age I'm 60 !  It's made me feel a bit better hearing ur news and I am trying to be more positive.  Have u made many friends on here as ur the only one that answered me.  I live in Hertfordshire what about u ? X
