Lymph node swellings, told likely metastatic

Hi… I can t believe I am here and am in total turmoil.

I am 59 and went to drs with firm neck lump. Was told it was a muscle and given muscle relaxant medication to take for 8 days. They didn’t work.  Went back and put on 2ww. Had ultra sound and was told accidentally “I think it is’. Then an immediate FNA was carried out there and then. A week later I got a report in my care saying likely metastasis but inconclusive. Ent said likely a lymphoma or spread from somewhere else.

I was then sent for full body  Pet-ct and head and neck MRI. I have also had a core biopsy.

These tests started 2 and a half months ago. Still no results and no appointment booked going forward.

Going out of my mind.

  • We seem to be a mirror image of each other!  Got hubby to hold my hand, hope you have someone with you too.  Will be thinking of you on Monday, I will catch up with you after the dreaded day, try to be positive, I know it is really hard and it is absolutely draining on your mental health.  I am saying to the people that I have had to tell (like my employer who have been marvelous) that it is "business as usual" until I tell them otherwise.  Take care my luv and i wish you all the very best of luck. Quick question for you, how big is your lump and do you feel unwell? X

  • We certainly do seem to be a mirror image! Awww glad hubby is with you. I’m single but I have my 3 wonderful children who will take it in turns for various appointments. We will definitely have to catch up on each other’s diagnosis.
This is strange though because I’ve said exactly the same to my employer, who has also been amazing!

My lump is 12mm but think it has grown a bit since first US. How about yours?

  • Hi Elly-May mine is hugenow and has lumps on lumps and is matted all down the left side of my neck.  It started as a grape size and now it is more like a bunch!  My boss says it looks like inspect bites (I wish).  I think surgery is the only option for this tumour unless chemo etc can reduce it.  Do you feel well in yourself?

  • Oh blimey. The problem is the longer they are left the more they grow. Mine started as a grape size too and I have other little ones around it apparently. Did you have itchy bite like things on yours?  As you mention insect bites. Yes I think you’re right with surgery as my consultant said in a recent letter they will probably go down that route with me and look at an area in the back of tongue. Also MRI on my thighs on Sunday. Not sure why.

i feel well in myself which is the annoying part xx

  • Yes a bit itchy but that has gone now but I have tiny pea size ones on top of my big one.  Yes, I feel absolutely fine.  You are not going to believe this but I have just had a call from my local hospital for and MRI on Sunday! Pleae don't tell me yours is at 3.30pm!

  • Yes I had itchy bite like things that have gone now. Very odd! My smaller ones are around my bigger one too. Omg no way! This is all a little bizarre. Not 3.30. Mine is 1.30pm. What area is yours on?

  • Well apparently, the consultation wants to look at the soft tissues in my neck.

  • Aah ok. Well please keep me updated as I will you. Good luck for Sunday and Monday! X

  • You too, take care, speak soon xxx

Hi I’ve read both your posts. You may have a Lymphoma either NHL or HL. I had DLBC NHL it was a lump in my lower jaw bone been there a year getting bigger size of a walnut and rock hard. I was diagnosed last August had chemo within 24 days . Had six rounds of RCHOP CHEMO. Within 2 sessions of six weeks my lump melted away no surgery. Still had 4 more sessions to mop up micro scopic cancer cells and to ensure I stay in remission. I was grade 1E just in my jaw. Even if these lymphomas are grade 4 they are still very treatable and many people go on to remission. Plus your age is also beneficial to get through it. I hope you both have not cancer but once you start treatment the NHS will look after you. The hardest battle is getting that diagnosis and then they move fast. Hope you both get through Monday ok. Eat healthy as well and exercise as much as possible. I’m 50 year old male.. If you do have Lymphoma by all means tax my brain I’ve researched so much on this cancer just in case it returns one day but there are so many treatments for it. Hope the weekend is smooth for you both take care
