New and frightened - is there anyone here with stage 4 aggressive endometrial cancer? Starting treatment next week but I've been told it's terminal

Hi anyone here with stage 4 grade 4 aggressive endometrial cancer?  Hopefully starting chemo and immunotherapy next week.  Feeling very low and anxious as have been told this is terminal.  I am 61 and not ready to die.

  • Hi Rosiecat.  I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  I don't have the same cancer as you but I do have stage 4 secondary breast cancer with mets in all of my bones including pelvis, spine , ribs and skull.  When I went to see the oncologist he asked me what I understood about my cancer.  I said I know it is terminal and he said it is not terminal.  It is not curable but it is treatable.  I was 47 first time I had cancer at 47 and then was diagnosed last year with secondary cancer at 59.  So many people are living with cancer these days and with all the new drugs, medication and trials coming out, there is a lot of hope for us.  It is frightening in the beginning but it does get easier.  There is a forum on Macmillan for womb cancer and there are ladies on there with endometrial cancer which might be helpful for you.  Good luck with your treatment next week.  Sending you hugs.

  • Many thanks Lee this feels overwhelming at the moment do you have hospice or ongoing cancer care support in the community my GP has told me there is nothing available except elderly dementia care

  • Hi Rosiecat,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sure this must be a lot to process - I hope you are getting on as OK as can be and that you have others around you for support also.

Please know we are always here for support too whenever you may need it, even if it's just to write things down.

From the homepage of the forum you can use the search bar to find other relevant discussions and people to connect with, if you'd like to.  has just posted about a similar situation so you may find it helpful to connect with them.

Keep in touch with your doctor if you have any questions at any point. And if you feel you'd like any extra support, Macmillan and Maggie's have various resources, helplines, and also local Maggie's centres.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi - I’m so sorry to read your post - I have stage 4 endometrial cancer - and told not curable but treatable - I completed aggressive chemo in July and now have immunotherapy alone every 6 weeks

  • Offline in reply to Larowe

Thank you for sharing this how are you feeling with the treatment?

  • Hi - I had some rough days after chemo but more good days than bad days- lost all my hair within around 2 weeks but have a nice very short covering now - the immunotherapy is fine and so far no side effects

  • Hi Rosiecat,  I am currently doing a zoom course with Penny Brohn who are a cancer charity.  They do lots of courses regarding cancer.  I also phoned Macmillan and they organized some counselling for me which helped.  Maggies centres also are a great help and if you have one near you, you can just walk in to see what they offer otherwise also online.  My GP has also referred me to the local hospice but I haven't heard anything from them yet.  I am lucky that I really like and trust my oncologist and can discuss anything with him.  You are still in very early stage of diagnosis and it is a lot to deal with in the beginning.  Once treatment starts next week, you sort of get into a rhythm and routine and it does get easier  Your GP doesn't sound very supportive, there is help and support out there.
