Is Chemotherapy Worth It

I have been newly diagnosed with breast cancer.  Suggested treatment is 16 weeks chemotherapy and the 6 weeks radiotherapy and the tamoxifen for 5 years.

After all this there is no guarantee that the treatment will be successful or that the cancer won't spread as a result of treatment.

Considering the side effects of treatment and quality of life, is it not better for me to accept what is and and live the best of my life and let it take it's course.

Looking for voices of reason please. Thank you.

  • Hi Tam

It is a very emotional time when you have just been diagnosed with cancer during which time it is easy to make irrational decisions. Untreated breast cancer has a poor outcome in terms of quality of life and life expectancy. There are no guarantees but with modern treatments you have a very high chance of long term remission or even complete cure. As a betting man the odds are so good in your favour it is a bet you should not miss out on. Your investment is a few weeks of treatment for potentially decades of life. Take your time to make your decision with the knowlege that you can discontinue your treatment if it really proves too much.
