Anal cancer diagnosis - waiting for treatment and getting anxious

I have been recently diagnosed and feel so so low as I feel there is a stigma attached but am a happily married Middle Ages woman !! I am awaiting treatment and am getting so anxious I can’t sleep as the waiting list for oncology is unbelievable and is it spreading !!

  • Hello, I am in exactly the same position! The waiting is agonising isn’t it? My chemo/ radio finally starting next week, so scared. Wishing you all the best. Do you have a plan now? Good to hear from someone that has been through the treatment and come out the other side

  • Hi EliHowe I just wondered how you have been ? My treatment starts in a couple of weeks , I have just had my planning scan and I don’t think I have ever been so scared ‘ I have been thinking of you

  • Hello there good to hear from you, I’m 2.5 weeks into treatment and lots of ups and downs. Upset stomach, quite nauseous but defiantly good to have something in place. I have a meeting with the oncologist next Wednesday so can update you. So glad you have a date for treatment - make the most of these two weeks to get organised if you can as it’s been difficult for me to do very much recently. Some comfy joggers/ can of soup / frozen meals very useful! Radiotherapy team very helpful if you have symptoms and want advice / support just ask, they should be a nurse on site to advise /prescribe if you need help.  X

  • Lovely to hear from you and it sounds like you’ve got this !! That’s amazing ! Thankyou for your advice it really helps so much , feeling petrified if I’m honest but your advice has been really helpful , let’s keep in touch xx

  • Hello there, do you have any updates on your treatment and when it is likely to start? I’m now in week five of six (radiotherapy). My liver couldn’t withstand the chemo so I had to stop that, very disappointing. Very sore skin now, make sure you get some Flamigel if you can. Let me know if you have any questions about your treatment.

    All the best Eli
