  • Hi Kim just wanted to say good luck with your husband's appointment today.  There are many treatments that they can offer him.  Hopefully today you will find out what his plan will be.  Good luck.

  • Hi Kim.... and welcome to the Cancer Chat.

Like Leelaloo, I just wanted to wish you and your husband all the best for today.

You can find out more about advanced colorectal cancer and what treatment options may be available to your husband on our website but if either of you would like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses after you've seen his consultant today, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very knowledgeable and will do all they can to answer your questions and support you at this very challenging time.

Do let us know how you get on when you're feeling up to it. We'll be thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed that your husband can be offered treatment.

    Best wishes to you both,

  • Hi thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post.

We are currently sat in sau in the hospital. Daryl saw consultant today he's sent him into hospital to have a stoma bag fitted hopefully tomorrow or Thursday.

Consultant has said once he's recovered from surgery he can have chemo/radiotherapy this won't cure him but hopefully keep cancer at bay

I'm praying he can tolerate the chemo

  • Hi Kim,  how did Daryl get on with his stoma?  I think he will tolerate chemo, there are tablets for all the side effects and if it does become too much they can reduce his dose or change to different chemo regime.  I have incurable cancer and having palliative treatment and hopefully it keeps the cancer under control.  My last scan two weeks ago says cancer is stable so that is a bonus.  There are so many treatments and trials these days.  Even hoping to go to Portugal in September.  Take care and sending hugs.  One day at a time.

  • Hiya he's still in hospital waiting to have it done. It was supposed to be yesterday but had to cancel him . We are praying its today. He needs this done so he can start his chemo. I work for the NHS and in theatres and in the hospital he's in its so frustrating. No perks for staff .

Thank you so much for checking in.

I'm so glad your cancer is stable.

    Please take care

  • Hi Lee

I hope you're OK.  Daryls had his operation he's home . He's got a long way to go he's been very depressed I have spoken to the doctor he's got oncologist appointment on Thursday.

    Take care

  • Hi Stephanie

    Thanks for the message

I think we need a little bit of support daryls had his surgery but not accepting his stoma. He's got a long way to go we have an appointment with oncologist on Thursday.

    Thanks

    Kim

  • Hi Kim I am glad Daryl had his operation and is home.  When you say he is not accepting his stoma, do you mean physically or mentally?  I imagine it must be a huge thing to come to terms with.  Can they reverse the stoma when things are settled or is it permanent.  Maybe the oncologist can offer some support for Daryl on Thursday and maybe once he gets his treatment plan, it will get easier for him.  I think maybe you being a nurse is making things worse for you.  It does get easier as time goes on..  Someone said to me try to think you are not dying of cancer you are living with cancer and that has stuck in my mind.  I really hope that you and Daryl get the support that you need.  It is good that you can vent and share your feelings on this safe place.  I am on the Macmillan forums as well and there are a few people on there with secondary cancer with stoma, one is going on safari soon so there is hope it will get better.  Sending you and Daryl big hugs.

  • Thank you. We are hoping for treatment to start as soon as it can once he's recovered from surgery.

    Thanks for replying
