Hair care and skin care. Breast cancer.

Hi, my wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer and starts chemotherapy in the next couple of weeks.
Can anyone reccomend tried and tested skincare and hair care products?
also is there any other supplements I can get in the house to help her through this journey. I want to everything I can to help her through this.

  • Hi Jay, so sorry to hear what you and your wife are going through.  When I had chemo I lost all my hair, which leaves the scalp feeling a bit sensitive, so I started using "CHILDS FARM SHAMPOO" which you can buy from Amazon.  It is a very mild and gentle shampoo and I found it ideal.  Also, Amazon do a really nice range of head scarves and hats, specifically designed for folks who have lost their hair to chemo.  I bought a wig, but I found it hot and itchy, and I stopped wearing it and stuck with the scarves and hats.  Good luck to both  you and your wife on this journey, I wish you all the best.

  • My wife commemced chemotherapy in November. She was warned that her hair would fall out after the first session. That was true. She had her third session on Monday (three week intervals). She uses electric shears on her head for convenience. She has a couple of wigs but prefers a hat. She has now become extremely tired. She says her arms itch but doesn't use any special cosmetics.

  • Hi Jay ... sorry to read your wife has been given a diagnosis of breast cancer  ... but huge hugs to you for reaching out for advice.

I was diagnosed 8 wks ago and so far have had 2 of 6 chemo treatments .... withing 10 days of the first chemo my hair began to fall out and scalp became very sensitive so i too like Blue-girl suggested use a baby friendly shampoo at first but now i have only stubble left so use a good moisturiser for the bald areas.

On new years eve i took control of what seemed the only thing i could control ... and shaved my head ... since then have a fast growing selection of scarfs/ hats

Wishing you both the very best in your journey xx

  • Hiya, I hope you are doing ok.
do you have anything you can recommend for my wife’s scalp? Her hair is coming out a lot and her scalp is very sensitive? Is there any type of moisturiser or oil which works better than general moisturiser?
    thank you

  • Hi Jay / wife xx   I found  once I had shaved my head the sensitivity reduced and now all I do is moisturise twice a day with a good cream.  When in the bath I still wash my head with a gentle baby shampoo ... don't ask me why... habit i think

  • Ok thank you. She’s not at the brave the shave stage just yet so I’ll ask her to try apply some moisturiser.
