Oncologist appointment tomorrow - what questions should I ask?

After being diagnosed on 18th January and going through all the various test, I finally get to see the oncologist tomorrow. Would like to hear from anyone who has any suggestions about what questions would be good to ask.

Also what are your experiences of how long it took for treatment to start after first oncology appointment. As my breast cancer is grade 3 and fast growing, I'm worried about it spreading, before my treatment even gets started.

Was it suggested you have a PICC line or port?

    Hi Norma,

Lovely to hear how you're getting on. How are you finding the Hope course? I hope that it's helpng.

    Regards,

  • I had a PICC line for treatment. They offered it as i have really bad veins and they worried about collapsing ones during treatment. I don't think you'll get offered one or the other will just depend on what they feel is best for you. Hope this helps x

  • Thank you, Jenny - so far so good. Still seems surreal at times. I keep the NHS busy - dietician today, renal consultant tomorrow and chest x-ray Friday.

  • So glad to hear you are doing good Mary ,its still hard to believe considering the amount of surgery you had to endure that things are going well , long may it continue my best wishes to you for all your coming appointments ,I trust they will all go well ,lovely to talk to you Mary ,I hope you and your husband continue to enjoy life x

  • Hi Mary,

I'm so relieved to see you back on the forum again. I replied to your last message 5 months ago and was worried when I heard nothing. It does sound as if you are keeping the NHS busy, but I hope that you are feeling a lot better by now. It's good to hear that the NHS are still keeping a close eye on you - after all that you've been through, this is only right!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

Thank you. My renal consultant said the results of my blood test were stable and told me that I am very lucky and I am marvellous.

Thank you. I'm sorry I missed seeing you before.
My renal consultant yesterday said the results of my blood test were stable and told me that I am very lucky and I am marvellous. I do tire easily still but that's OK. After all, that might be partly because of getting older too - D.V. shall be 78 at the end of November.

  • Hi again Mary ,you couldn't ask for anything better than that ,you must be so relieved to get that out of the way once again ,I agree with the Consultants words "you are very lucky and marvellous " God obviously loves you ,keep going keep trusting that you will stay well ,until the next time Mary my very Best Wishes to you and your Husband x

    Hi Mary,

You're only a year older than me. It's 16 years now since I had my first cancer surgery and 15 since the second. I still suffer with extreme fatigue after all this time, but we're still here and that's what's important! I am delighted to hear that your bloods were stable. You are indeed very lucky and marvellous, or should I say, a true marvel!

    Stay well!
