Oncologist appointment tomorrow - what questions should I ask?

After being diagnosed on 18th January and going through all the various test, I finally get to see the oncologist tomorrow. Would like to hear from anyone who has any suggestions about what questions would be good to ask.

Also what are your experiences of how long it took for treatment to start after first oncology appointment. As my breast cancer is grade 3 and fast growing, I'm worried about it spreading, before my treatment even gets started.

Was it suggested you have a PICC line or port?

  • Hello!!!!

So lovely to hear from you. HOpe you all had a lovely Easter. We managed to pop over to Jersey to see my parents and brothers and their famililes who live over there so that was fun and we were SO luckly with the weather! Kids went back to school this morning so the house feels very quiet!...but also like a bomb has hit it so i'm trying to have a productive day getting everything straight again...and them i'm going to pick up my course again. About 3 months ago i started a Personal Training and Nutrition course with a speciality in menopause! I'm finding it super interesting although had a break over easter....there is a lot of biology involved, i wish i paid more attention when i was at school!!!!!!! But yeah it's good and it's giving me purpose....i have to say i felt a little lost after all my BIG treatment ended so this has given me a focus....I've also signed up to the marathon moonwalk in a few weeks!!! eeeeek!!!! So i'm trying to do a LOT of walking...it's more the issue of doing it through the night which is worrying me, i'm usually tucked up in bed by 10pm!...and it starts at 9pm! But hopefully it will be a memorable experience raising money for breast cancer!

I'm on zolodronic infusions, abemaciclib and anastrozole and the moment i seem to be ok on them all..for now anyway!  A  few bouts of nausea, hot flushes etc but otherwise ok ish....The zolodronic acid wasn't very pleasant but i hear the first one is the worst so hopefully the next one will be ok!

Congratulations Pippin on grandbaby 3 on it's way. That is incredible and your eldest must be so happy to have finally got pregnant. That's fantastic news.Sorry about the joint pain but yes exercise does help! I hope it's not too unbearable and loosens up throughout the day. Brilliant about. clear mammogram too...and hopefully you'll get the second op soon...maybe it's good for you to enjoy the warmer weather and have. lovely summer before you have to have an op and recoup.

Sending lots of love and hope everyone else is doing ok.

    xx

    • Hi Greeny80, sounds like you are doing really well. It's great that you have your course to focus on,  it sounds really interesting. Lovely that you had a trip over to Jersey to see your family  and had the bonus of great weather. Enjoy the peace and quiet now that the kids are back at school, but I'm sure it was lovely having them at home for a couple of weeks. We are off for a weekend away this week, just me and hubby. Hubby won a raffle in December 2023, for a two night stay in a four star hotel. We couldn't go last year due to all my hospital visits, but have at last got it booked in. Had a lovely lunch out with my mum and dad today. They do quite well considering they 're 88 and 90 years old. Although they are getting a bit unsteady on their feet now. Good luck with your marathon  moonwalk, I'm sure you'll do great. I once run in the London marathon many years ago, couldn't do it now lol! Please let me know how you get on. Xx
  • Hi Pippin,

I replied to your other post about Letrozole to let you know that I was advised by my surgeon to take Starflower oil capsules. Check this with your own consultant first, just to make sure. I certainly have legacies from my hormone treatments, even after 15 years, and I agree that we are not given sufficient advice about the permanent damage that can be caused by these drugs at the outset.

I fear that it's getting a little late for my daughter now, but I feel very fortunate to have the two girls, who are a great joy. I think that I am finally beginning to recover from the dose of Covid that I had at Christmas and I had an MRI for my back on Tuesday, so am now awaiting the results.

I see that you and hubby are going away for a couple of days and I hope that you enjoy the break.
