Prostate cancer spread to bones

My husband was diagnosed yesterday 5/12/23 with prostate cancer and they think that it has spread to his bones ,is anybody in the same situation as ourselfs. we have also been told so many times not to have chemo am at my wits end we dont know how long he has or anything

  • yes we have received that letter loads of numbers and letters on it which we dont understand do you understand what they all mean

  • Hi.  On the day of the biopsy I left the hospital with a clinical summary. This summary confirmed the number of biopsy samples being sent to histology for  assessment - the Gleason number of 5+4. . Three weeks after the biopsy I met with the Urology clinical consultant who went through my scans on screen and the options for treatment. It then came down to a decision from myself as to how I would like to proceed from the options outlined, with advice that I had to make a decision within three months of initial ADT treatment. The consultant phoned me at 2 1/2 months and I made my decision.   There are four second generation drug therapies, one of which is used with Chemotherapy.    If you Google ‘triplet therapy prostate cancer’ this drug in mentioned and the narrative is under the website of prostatecanceruk.org.  Hope this helps.

  • Hi it is Prim-rose. Sorry not been able to log back on till now. My husband was diagnosed with PC spread to bones nearly 2 years ago. PSA 65.6 Gleason score 4+5. Had enzalutamide, spinal cord compression just over a year ago, then Docetaxel, then cabazitaxel. Quite disabled, bone pain and starting radium 223 in 2 weeks.

  • Good morning sticher how are you doing ? hows your chemo treating you

  • Hi

I’m so sorry to read your story re your husband’s diagnosis!

I just wanted to let you know that my husband was in exactly the same position when he was diagnosed with PC in Nov 22!
It was a massive shock to us too, as he had tripped on holiday in July of the same year and gradually by Nov he could not get out of bed and walk at all!  He had no other symptoms other than more trips to the bathroom at night, only two weeks before!
Turned out PC had spread to his whole skeleton and his hip had deteriorated rapidly!  His PSA was 1250+, Gleason score 4+4

Let’s just say, do have faith with the journey, as after having two hormone injections, my husband was back walking again within two weeks!
After 14 months, monthly hormone injections, six weeks of Chemo, his PSA is right back down to 24!
We both know how much of a waiting game this journey can be, but so worth it, when you see the successes that can be achieved. Please reach out if you need to as I know all too well that’s it’s not easy on us as partners & the family too!

  • Hi thank you for replying to me my husbands PSA was 776 after 1 injection it had dropped to 81 we was amazed with that result, we go on the 6th of feb to talk about his bone cancer IE what treatment he is having my husband didnt realy want chemo as he said he didnt want to be poorly how was your hubby with the chemo ,the cancer is only in the middle region of his bones from his neck his groin its not anywere eles all his organs are working as they should

  • Hiya

No problem.  He wasn’t keen on chemo either, but when we chatted through the other options with his Consultant & specialist nurse, they all came to the same conclusion that he wouldn’t ever be fitter than he was then!  The chemo was nothing like it used to be and is definitely less invasive.
You are asked all the time what side effects you are getting and when they thought it was too many they reduced his dosage..

Some charities do a session all about chemo for you both before you start having it - we didn’t have time to attend before the treatment started, but definitely worthwhile if you can get on one!
    good luck

  • Awful sleep pattern for 3 days.  A bit achey and lethargic but today is just tiredness.  Two more weeks to go and then the second session.

  • how long has it been since your hubby was diagnosed how is he doing right now hun
