Cmml

I have recently been diagnosed with CMML it came as a massive shock as I've always felt quite healthy , the only thing I've ever had was appendicitis, it was only found during a blood test , I find myself waking in the middle of the night wondering how is this going to affect my life, although I'm 71 years old I am quite active and enjoy gardening, walking, and I'm wondering if this is going to shorten my life , its worrying me more that I would like to admit

  • Hello amispartacus

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis of CMML. It's understandable that you will have questions and concerns about what impact this may have on your health moving forwards.

We have some information on our website about CMML that you may find helpful but in the meantime, if you would like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I'm sure they will be happy to give you any advice, information and support they can along with helping you think about some of the questions that you might want to raise with your Consultant.

  • Hi  I was diagnosed with cmml in April 2021

I'm still in shock lay awake at night wondering what's going to happen.

I was offered no treatment am on " watch and observe" program .

    Have bloods checked periodically.

    I'm told it's a slow growing cancer.

Although  only diagnosed two years ago specialist said I've probably had a lot longer

    I'm 71

    Just plodding on lol

  • Hi strawberry I am on a watch and observe also its not Very reassuring, I was in shock when I got the diagnosis and it wasn't until I got home I thought of a few questions I should have asked I need to speak to someone about this to reasure me and to find out the do's and don'ts like you say I'll just have to plod on

  • Hi Ampispartacus

    Thanks for your reply

It was discovered I had an enlarged Spleen after having a scan and then sent for bone marrow biopsy were they found cancer.

That worries me .My spleen nearly twice normal size and yet no  treatment  probably because more problems to remove ??

When I was told I had CMML my first question was " what treatment will I have" Was shocked when told "nothing"

Told on "watch and observe " program.

.I think because  my Cancer smouldering that's plan

Only advise I was given was to lead a healthy life style and exercise.

I try to walk each day and I'm afraid to say my healthy diet includes the occasional glass of wine .

    Take care x

  • Hi strawberry 99

Nice to hear from you hope you're keeping well your story mirrors mine only difference was I fainted one morning which led to me having blood tests every thing else is the same as your experience, I live by the sea and try to get to have a walk along the beach to keep active but I find I do get out of breath if I tend to overdo it ,I used to drink quite a lot in my younger days but now it's just an odd pint maybe at weekends I'm due a blood test in a couple of months so see what happens next, you take care and keep positive x
