Lung cancer

I have just been diagnosed with lung cancer and have no other information a this time. I am very afraid of what happens to me now. It would be great to hear from others regarding this

  • Had a bad day today feeling very depressed,

  • Hi Donna. I'm so very sorry your cancer is inoperable but it is amazing what they can do now to treat cancer. Immunotherapy is a fantastic development and I hope the combination of treatments gives you what you need.
I've been told mine is operable,  but the tumour is in a very difficult place which means I will likely lose my whole lung and have to have open chest surgery. I'm meeting the surgeon tomorrow to discuss options. I'm relieved that they feel it's operable but still anxious. It's been a rollercoaster time for sure. I'm sorry things have been difficult for you and delighted to hear you have furbabys to brighten your day. I would never have gotten through this past month without my dog. She's been a godsend ️
please let me know how you are doing. X

  • Hi lisaire thank you for your response I am please your tumour is operable good luck with it all and please keep in touch. I am sure I will get over my down day tomorrow and things will be better for me in the morning. Have a good evening hugs xx

my furbabies are brilliant and usually they cheer me up but not today I think they have picked up on my mood. Xx

  • It's very tough to feel positive but please keep trying to find the hope thats in your situation. There's always hope, even in the darkest of days. Please take care of yourself and cuddle your dogs as much as possible. Sending love. Xx

  • I don't know if you have already listened to them, but I found the podcasts, You, Me and the Big C, really helpful. They are on the bbc website. Xxx

  • Hi lisaire

  • Hello Donna,

I just read through your posts and wanted to say sorry you have been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer and are going through treatment. My Mum was diagnosed in February after a CT Scan showed tumour (4cm) on right upper lobe of lung and many smaller nodules on both lungs. Biopsy showed it was cancerous and had spread to both lungs and right lymph nodes. Mum has a lung mutation (EGFR) non-small cell lung cancer and due to this mutation is now taking a targeted cancer drug at home (1 week now) and will have CT scan is 3 months to check if working. Its been an absolute whirlwind. How are you doing? How are you finding your treatment? Would love to keep in touch as I find talking to others is really the best help, actually discussing with someone who has lung cancer or is caring for someone with cancer is a real help as it is only really others that are going on the same journey that can understand in a way others can not.  Take care.

  • Hi Jane

I am pleased you found my post helpful, having cancer is not easy and at the moment I am coping well. I have chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatment every 3 weeks, when I have complete 4 rounds of chemotherapy I will continue with immunotherapy for 2 years. If all goes according to plan the cancer will be stable and  I will be able to live with it for a while, nt sure how long but I will be making the most of it. I will be returning to work when I have completed the chemotherapy part of my treatment plan and I am looking forward to the challenge. My cancer has spread and I have secondary bone cancer but this can be treated. Whilst I have down days I try and stay positive and do things to keep me cheerful I would advise you do the same for yourself and you mum, I agree it is a rollercoaster of emotions always take a step back before you react and find something positive in the situation not easy I know but please try. Tell your mum I hope the treatment plan she has works for her and the most important thing to remember is if she has any questions or health concerns ask you specialist nurse straight away don't wait. I am happy to keep in touch and if you need anyone to support you please feel free to contact me

have a good day and keep smiling hugs xxx Donna

  • Hi Donna,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply and so nice to hear how your doing with your treatment. I am glad your treatment is underway because I think for most people its when nothing is happening it feels slightly daunting and often more worrying but when there is a clear plan ahead and you start at least you feel something is hopefully going to control the cancer spreading any further (big fingers crossed). My Mum is amazing. She is very brave and keeps positive. Mum had kidney cancer in 2019 which was a 4cm tumour in kidney which was shattered using a cryoablation procedure in Southampton. It seems to have done the trick so we think the Lung cancer is a primary cancer as there were no signs the kidney cancer had spread anywhere else although she had suspicious chronic changes in her right lung as far back as 2017 but because it stayed stable for 1.5 years they stopped the ct scans. In hindsight I wish I had pushed for one after this time but I didn't and we can't look back with regrets. Mum and are are making the most from each day, finding joy now in the spring flowers and the sunshine, just took our dog for a walk and its absolutely beautiful with all the blossom trees and daffodils. Of course worry and sadness comes in at times but we bat it off again and continue to think of the present day, not too far in the future. Really hope you continue to keep well with your treatment and are able to enjoy the spring weather too. We are in contact with the Lung Specialist Nurses thankfully. Please keep in touch anytime you want a chat. May I ask do you have any obvious symptoms? Mum wheezes at night and has a occasional cough, gets breathless if we go for a walk but nothing too awful. We just stop and then start again.

Hope you have a good day. Jane xxx
