Compensation for Mesothelioma patients

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had any success with claiming compensation for someone with mesothelioma.

My Dad died in December from this and he got the standard compensation from the government but you can then go on to claim from their place of work.

Just wondering how much information you need to be able to carry out a claim. We know where he got it from but the info we have is sketchy as the place of work is not there anymore.

The company is still in action though. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

  • Hello dear friend, I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  We have  just learned that my husband of 85 has left epitheioid mesotelioma staging T2aNOMO.   The lung nurse at the hospital gave us a list of solicitors who would fight the case on a no win no fee basis.  Loads quoted and we were advised not to use any old solicitor but one experienced in making asbesos claims from past employer where hubby came into contact with that nasty stuff.  Did your Dad tell you all the places he worked, particularly in the 1950 and 1960s?  This could help.  I know that claims can be made by family, so I suggest you make enquiries for solicitors in your country - we live in Wales and we approached a Cardiff based solicitor who visited us/  Good Luck.

  • Sorry to hear of your loss. Just another thought about solicitors, if you are a member of a Union, or of the Co-operative (ie got a member card for when you do your shopping), you may be able to get some free legal advice,  I take the point about going through a firm with experience of mesothelioma claims, but it may be worth inquiring. 16 yo Daughter got hit by a car as a pedestrian, sufferred injuries, and through my union we were able to get her some compensation which she has put by in case the damage to her teeth neck and back causes her long term issues, it covered her chiropractic costs and initial dental expenses.

  • I read your post but would point out that claiming for asbestos based cancer, is a different 'kettle  of fish'

  • Hi, thank you so much for your response and I am so sorry to hear about your husband. We know where Dad got it from but details are a bit sketchy. I have some contact info for a few solicitors that deal with mesothelioma cases specifically so I will contact them. I was just wondering how much detail they need to make a case worthwhile but thanks for your advice.

  • Not too much detail but I agree it will be harder as you cannot consult your Dad.  Sit down with your family and try to work out the years he worked for whom and what his job was and the jobs where you think he was likely to have come into contact with asbestos.  They will ask all this, so have it ready, as close as your know.

  • Thank you. Luckily, his brother also worked at the same place so I can refer to him for info too. Thanks for your help.
