Benefit help

My Dad has recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer (I say recently-within the last 6 months) he's had all sorts of procedures and biopsies and it's now been decided he will have it completely removed and have a bag. My question is how do we go about seeing there's any financial help for himself and my mum (she is having to take time off work and majority is unpaid) he has recently retired so not sure if he's entitled to anything.

Can anyone offer any guidance on where to go next? I'm trying to relieve some of the pressure off of my mum as it's understandably overwhelming.

Any help welcome

  • Hi Shelley,  sorry to hear about your Dad.  Depending on his age he can claim PIP if he is technically of working age or Attendance Allowance if he is of pension age. Also if you go onto www.gov.uk there is a benefit calculator called Entitledto and if your Mom puts her and your Dads details in, it will tell her if she is entitled to Universal Credit etc.  Also Citizens Advice can help.  Good luck
