Radiotherapy for Throat Cancer

Hello all,

I have posted my little story on introduce yourself and basically I have been diagnosed with Stage 1 Throat cancer.

The prognosis is hopeful and I remain cheerful and positive. Its taken a while for the actual treatment to start so glad to get on with it at last.

I started my first day of radiotherpy today and have 29 more treatments to go over 6 week period.
I have made a little computer programme that logs my side effects and summarises episodes of each heading and I plan on keeping a daily log of how things went/ how I feel ( good and bad ) and map out my journey. I find it therapuetic.

I will share periodically in the hope that even if it helps one person as well as myself  it will be worthwhile.

So day 1 was fine and I dont really feel any difference or notice anything.
One small point is that the mask made was slightly harder than when it was first made as it has set little harder over the weeks and was a little more moveable on the day made.
Took about 10 mins for actual radiotherpay treatment itself.
Drove home fine.

Meet with advanced practioner nurse every Thurs to discuss progress.
Aware might be a little different along the way but all good after day 1.

kind regards

Ian

  • Im having the camera up the nose next thursday Hazel Iv had it twice already the first time the doc sprayed my nose with numbing spray the second time my now regular doc just shoved it up without any spray like he was clearing the chimney and it made my eyes water a bit but it wasnt that bad, its just something they need to do.

Im not looking forward to the Chelsea game we dont ususally come away from there with anything, maybe Ole can change all that though.

  • Hi everyone. Just sat and read through all 28 pages of this forum lol. I've been taking notes all the way through for my upcomng journey and can't thank everyone enough for sharing. I am due to get my upper wisdom teeth removed on Thursday then I am due to start my first chemo session (first of 2) on the 4th March and then 30 sessions (6 weeks) of RT.

I'll be keeping a close eye and will share anything I can pick up that might help others, this is just the kind of help I've needed, advice from people who are actually going through it.

I wish everyone well and good luck with everything.

Good luckmwith the teeth inwas Lucky an s didn’t have any extractions, but I have a wisdom tooth that stuck I into my cheek from week one and is still there week 25 post radiotherapy it pops in and out many a day I think I woukd have been better having it extracted !

take comfort that they’re onky doing it  for the best reasons as. After treatmentbits v difficult to pull teeth due to severity of treatment .

  • Yes, an exclusive club and not out of choice but here we are. Feeling part of this group will definitely help.

I've started reading your blog as well so will have another go tomorrow.

I'm meeting a guy at work tomorrow who has been through this already and he is going to try and put any of my fears at bay.

I will pass on any other tips I find.
