Radiotherapy for Throat Cancer

Hello all,

I have posted my little story on introduce yourself and basically I have been diagnosed with Stage 1 Throat cancer.

The prognosis is hopeful and I remain cheerful and positive. Its taken a while for the actual treatment to start so glad to get on with it at last.

I started my first day of radiotherpy today and have 29 more treatments to go over 6 week period.
I have made a little computer programme that logs my side effects and summarises episodes of each heading and I plan on keeping a daily log of how things went/ how I feel ( good and bad ) and map out my journey. I find it therapuetic.

I will share periodically in the hope that even if it helps one person as well as myself  it will be worthwhile.

So day 1 was fine and I dont really feel any difference or notice anything.
One small point is that the mask made was slightly harder than when it was first made as it has set little harder over the weeks and was a little more moveable on the day made.
Took about 10 mins for actual radiotherpay treatment itself.
Drove home fine.

Meet with advanced practioner nurse every Thurs to discuss progress.
Aware might be a little different along the way but all good after day 1.

kind regards

Ian

  • Hi Hazel Im glad you got your appointment sorted out, thanks for the Chewing gum tips Iv been trying Werthers but its a short term fix with everything Iv tried so far.

The game against PSG was a disaster, that squad isnt good enough Im afraid and needs putting right in the summer, god knows why they are giving players like Jones a contract extension? but what do I know?

Nice that you`ve got the Spain trip to look forward to, we are just waiting  until I get my scan results which will probably be early May then we will be off to Skiathos :)

  • Hi Hazel

noticed you put link on blog so thanks for that and a  couple have already been in touch

I like your new hairstyle btw and it suits you - looking all glam now and supermodel ish

So we now have Superdave and HotHazel..Great characters in this little club !

Sorry to hear of your appointment drama but glad you sorted.

And yup do you know what, I have taken some inspiration from Superdave and forced myself out this morning. Went into other village and got hair cut, then picked up medications then went shopping.
Will force myself out tomorrow again.Gave myself a slap in the face with a wet fish this morning and determined to up the ensures again ( i've been slipping, me bad) and getting out more. Even if Im tired im tired anyways. Think im short of a game of football but I do actually feel I should do more and I can honestly say it was a little wake up after reading how well Dave is doing ( so thanks Dave)
Will see how I get on but probably not helping myself by not  taking all my ensures and meals so what can I expect and just needed a little wake up call. Hopefully next week will have me on better terms

If I picked you up correctly do you still struggle with getting prescriptions from your GP?
Mine does not bat an eyelid and ive just picked up 168 bottles Ensure. As for mouthwash I get Caphasol tablets and 4 bottles of Difflam every 4 weeks so they give me a bottle a week to use.I noticed in the chemist Difflam mouthwash is about £8.60 a bottle ! but in anycase strange no chemist around you stocks as its on shelf in mine. Even so,can you not get an alternative prescribed?

At least you have some sunshine to look worward to and hope you really enjoy ( AGAIN LOL )
