Triple negative breast cancer grade 3

Hi everyone.

I have triple negative breast cancer grade 3 and start my chemo in 2 weeks. 3 sessions of FEC - T then 3 of docetaxel.  Have been looking at wigs but just doesn't feel right. I'm scared and don't wanna know to much about it if I honest just want to know that it's treatable and curable which docs have told me it is so that's good enough for me. Has anyway else had this diagnosis or treatment and what can i expect. The fear of infection while going thru treatment scares me also. How has everyone else been with that ??

Sending love n hugs to all fighting cancer

  • Hi Lou,

Hope you are keeping well. I was diagnosed in September 2019 with triple negative. I had 12 weeks of paclitaxol and carboplatin followed by 2 rounds of EC. I responded really well to chemo so didn't need the final round of EC. I then had a lumpectomy after the chemo and 3 weeks of radiotherapy. All finished now and i have been given the all clear. Yes!!! What chemo have you got planned?

Wish you all the best in your treatment, stay positive, you've got this! xxx

  • Hi Lou,

I hope you have found your own way to navigate the cancer journey. I'm out the other side (given all clear in December) and waiting for my op to 'balance things out.

Like you, I had my op first then the chemo, followed by radiotherapy.

i had 7 rounds of chemotherapy, once every three weeks - except when things didn't go to plan, be prepared for that, I wasn't and it really got me down the first time. Not to say it will happen, but it might, if you're ready for it I think you'll be less upset than I was.

I had 3 rounds of epirubicin and cyclophosphamide, everyone is different my first I felt like death for a day or two after, but quickly picked up and just felt tired which gradually wore off as the days between treatments went on, at times I felt perfectly fine. I told them about how unwell I felt and they changed my nausea medication which worked like a charm, felt a bit off for 24 hours then fine. I had a lot of issues with phlebitis and lots of people told me to get a picc or central line, but there was a lot of clock ups at the hospital and by the time I got an appointment I'd only one treatment left to do!

i then had 4 rounds of carboplatin and paclitaxel weekly, but after a few weeks I had to giv3 up the taxol as it was causing really bad side effects. The oncologist said he thought it would have little impact on my prognosis though.

everyone reacts differently to the chemo, and I have to say most of the time I felt mildly tired or absolutely fine. My main issues were with inflamed veins, which improved after the ec treatment, and crippling stomach cramps after the paclitaxel, for a few days. The oncologist thought that the toxicity was probably too high for me. I had 3 tumours in one breast but none in my lymph nodes which is why they zapped it so hard.

i hope the rest of your journey goes smoothly, you will be out the other side surprisingly quickly.

    love and positivity

    wonky.

  • Do you mind me asking what the problems were that you had with the paclitaxel?  I'm in my first cycle of four of EC and then have twelve weekly cycles of taxol and four of carboplatin after that - just wondering what might be in store.

Glad you're on the home straight now

  • I don't mind you asking at all,

for me, it was really bad stomach cramps which had me doubled up for a couple of days. They would just start to ease and then I'd have my next lot and they'd get slightly worse, I think I managed to get through about 5 or 6 weeks, there were issues trying to see my oncologist, once I did he stopped it straight away.

I have got ongoing digestive issues anyway, I have wheat and oat intolerance, a hiatus hernia, and reflux, as well as lower digestive tract sensitivity, so I don't think it was surprising I struggled so much. As I say, he said it wouldn't make a huge difference to stop it at that point.

  • Hi I have been diagnosed with stage 3 breast ductul  cancer triple negative  last week  I not sure what's going on I have had three biopsys  which show three further lumps   My surgery is in two weeks delayed due to Coronavirus not enough threathers for breast surgery

but since last night I have had pain in my arm pit and loses down in my breast and my breast seems  to have got larger and my veins are showing more on the effected breast

  • Hi Minny,

I'm so sorry, what a horrible situation you have found yourself in, you are probably all over the place at the moment. Hopefully, you will have been allocated a Macmillan nurse or breast care nurse. If so, I'd ring them and speak to them about your symptoms. No symptom or question is too minor or trivial for them to discuss with you, theyve seen and heard it all and fully understand how every new symptom or twinge will make you feel. They will either reassure you or arrange for you to be seen by you surgeon.

If not, then try to get in touch with your oncologist, again, no question or symptom is too small or insignificant. Try to stay positive, I had TNBC diagnosed in November 2018, I had three tumours, one was several cm and another looked to be breaking out as I had ulcers on my nipple. I was given the all clear last December at my annual mammogram.

Good luck with your journey, we are all rooting for you

  • Thankyou I've left  a message with the cancer nurses I think there nobody there because of Friday holiday I'll try again good take

  • It might be worth trying 111. Is your breast hot to touch?

  • Hi

    Hi

Thanks for your post. Your post has been really useful. My mom is going through a similar condition. I need some advice. I have seen through a lot of youtube videos that eating the right food can kill the cancer cells. Could you please help me with the advice of food and diet or whaterver you think would be useful. You can email me or call me. I really love my mom. I would really appreciate you can connect with me.

    Regards

  • Partak, sorry to hear this about your mum, I won't lie I was also terrified three years ago when drs. Told me I had stage 2, grade 3, thripple negative breast cancer.
Three years on I am very healthy, and no recurrence of cancer.
mid you've noticed drs don't go on about changing your diet or reducing sugar etc.( like YouTube).
I feel this is because taking one step at a time is so important whilst going through treatment .
for me one minute I gained so much weight , and the next few months I ate like crazy.
I would say, just follow the drs advice, and concentrate on one treatment at a time. It was hard enough just the emotional journey, so leave the physical aspects to what the drs. Say.
we have extremely good cancer care in the Uk.

and in 2 years time, after your mums treatment, if she wants to change her diet, and excercise, I would say that's the right time for it.
    good luck .
    hipe this helps.
