Living with Stage 4 Breast Cancer.

Hi there. I am wondering if there's anyone out there who, like me, is living with Stage 4 breast cancer?

It would be good to be in contact with other people who are living with this disease.

In July 2011 I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma which was already widespread throughout both lungs and liver.

I would be interested to talk to anyone else who finds themselves in a similar position and who, despite the difficult prognosis, is determined to keep as fit as possible, access all medical treatment and eat well.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Mary

  • Dear Mary ,. i try jigsaws and puzzle books unless I find things to do around house,to keep me occupied ,oh TV as well, just been modifying front ramp for scooters in and out passage aluminium and wood and trying to find somewhere to hang it when not being used otherwise passage door is open all the time.

Been to local Spar shop this morning trying scooter in icy paths, very good actually i was surprised I've got good lighting on it as well .

Brenda has a perm arranged tomorrow so she will look good Christmas.

Hope your diet is going well, it took me ages to get weight off,(side effects of hormone therapy), trouble getting socks on .

    Take care,

    Love Billy xxxx

  • Hi Mary

I've been reading this thread with so much relief . I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer earlier this year with only slight shading to my bone and after treatment I'm currently No evidence of disease however still classed as non curable . Im really positive and exercised all the way through with good nutrition and laughter and im sure this has helped with the good response I've been lucky enough to have so far.
I want to do as much as I can to help myself but there is so much information it's hard to know what's misinformation and what isn't so I've been looking for people to chat things over with , what has worked and hasn't in the real world.
I wonder if you could send me your website please? It's quite overwhelming the information out there and it would be good even to have a starting point?
    thankyou

  • Hi Joanne,

It must have been a pretty tricky summer for you. It is excellent that you are remaining positive and have exercised as much as you feel comfortable, and have maintained good nutrition. Especially the laughter bit! I agree that navigating the rubbish we find online is not easy.

I feel that what works as a complimentary help in one case doesn't always help in the next,. But I also think that your approach is fabulous and that an open mind will always help you to find extra lifestyle choices are best for you.

I have sent you a friend request. I can only tell you about the way I approach my own disease, and I do not give advice. But I am always happy to chat xxx

  • Hi Billy,

    It's a bit too cold isn't it!

Brrrrr yes you must get that passage way door closed - the cold is not good for us!

We are looking forward to a Christmas with just us this year. Us two. The family are all descending on the 27th so that will be busy. I like a quiet Christmas now.

I expect Brenda will love her new hair do. I always love mine, makes me feel pampered. I didn't have mine done all of last year because of Covid; I looked like an old rag doll I used to have Hahahaha.

I'm afraid to say that the diet has suffered recently, I don't know why. Perhaps I'm a bit anxious what with new scans coming up etc. I tend to comfort eat....I always have.....

I love a good jigsaw. I like WasGijs. And my son bought me a very difficult jigsaw of the moon last Christmas...all various shades of grey.... grrrrr I will be lucky if I finish it before this Christmas!

Better go now. We've had a power cut and the heating has reset itself to midnight...brrrrr it's cold so will need to reset it!

    Love to you both,

    Mary

  • Morning dear Mary,

Shame about your diet , just take your time and it'll come off little bit at a time, remember keep positive . it took me 2years to get down to a decent weight,so I could get socks on and trim toe nails without stomach being in the way .

Brenda loves her hair, first perm for three years, when she was bad she sneaked a pair of scissors into bedroom and cut her hair really short and messy I cleaned it up best I could, usto cut and perm my mother's after she got bad rumatics and couldn't manage hairdresser . hope you can get your hair done soon just , ready for Christmas , be pampered again.

Hope your power stays on over winter, we've a gas fire and cooker as well as central heating so always got some heat just in case electric goes off.

Just us as well Christmas ,got grandsons wedding January they've already got 5 children so about time .

Managed to get some ski gloves for us both, yesterday keep hands warm when driving Scooter's half price as well ,i just need some warm boots now, shoes not very good on scooters definitely not paying 70 + pounds for a pair though want good ones Brenda got a lovely pair other week £15..

Remember be positive and sure nomatter what .

  • Happy New Year to you and Brenda,

And Happy New Year to everyone.

I hope 2022 brings you all good news.

All is well here. No it's not at all cheeky asking about the diet; I have definitely been struggling to keep eating the healthy stuff as the naughty stuff is so tempting! So...here I go... New Year's Resolution made. I shall keep you informed on how it's going - but I have to do it.

The trailer sounds an excellent solution to the shopping problem. Christmas was good here thank you.

I'm due a scan next Friday (if it isn't cancelled with all this Covid stuff) but my results won't be until my appointment in February. I hate the waiting. I'll probably ring them and ask beforehand.

Looking forward to lighter evenings again soon,

    take care and stay safe,

    Mary

  • Dear Mary .

Hope things are going well for you and yours .

Hope you don't mind me keep letting you know about people having problems, only alot of times I have problems putting words right about thing's and your alot better than me explaining .

Again hope things are going well, know you are probably worried about next month results.

Take care keep safe and positive.

That scooter trailer makes it easier for shopping, got new batteries for my old one,let me down twice two minutes from home, higher power so more milage and faster.
