The good and the bad

Hi peeps

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Taking the excellent advice on this website I pretty much started by taking it one day at a time. This does indeed help.

I thought to share the good and the bad and would love to hear anyone else's should they wish to share.

Today I had both a good and a bad moment. I received 2 letters in the post.

The first was from the hosp confirming my op date (my bad moment) cos my stomach dropped and I had that now familiar feeling of anxiousness take hold for a moment but shook it off cos I know it is needed.

The good - my 2nd letter - as if... a tax rebate - boom  . Not half put a much needed smile on my face . Reckon a my treat family meal is in order.

Eeee it's the little things ain't it.

Take care peeps

    Hi Sandra,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. You are doing well by trying to cope one day at a time. The first letter you received today wasn't so bad.. It is going to remove the cancer in your breast and give you the chance to live a normal life once all this treatment is over, so the sooner you start the sooner you'll be finished with it all. The second was a definite bonus.

What surgery are you going to have - a lumpectomy or a mastectomy?

I have had 2 bouts of primary breast cancer. The first was diagnosed 7 years ago and the second the following year. Have you got a treatment plan in place post-surgery?

Please stay in touch. Remember, there is always someone here whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine.

    Thanks for the reply.

I have 2 small lumps in my R breast (no one can feel them nor is there any outward change to be seen nor pain. Caught on routine screening).

They are grade 1 and grade  2 both invasive cancers. On MRI my lymph nodes look clear.

I am having a lumpectomy on the 21st as a day case. They are hoping to make 1 incision to get to both but will re assess on day. They are also taking 2 sentinel nodes for biopsy just in case.

After the op all things being equal I am to have radiotherapy mon to fri for 3 wks.

Wow how matter of fact does it all sound in the written word when it is so not.

7yrs post diagnosis - I tip my hat to you Jolamine. When we are first diagnosed it's like our lives ended in that moment. This is so not true "living with Cancer" never a truer word.

    take care Jolamine

  • Glad your return to work has been positive warrior. Office politics never changes does it lol.

Well im on a week off from work so I can do some things with little one . So far we did an outside music festival Sunday, zoo keeper experience for the day Monday and Chinatown in London and the imperial war museum today. Am now in nightie laying on sofa with zero energy.    Rest day tomorrow me thinks.

Some excellent news on the healthy eating plan. In the first week I lost 9.5 inches and 10lbs!

  • Have a good week, Cornish.

Congrats to Warrior sailing through first time back at work despite office politics.

    Good

Oncologust appt tomorrow...here at last. Hopefully get plan for Brachytherapy and dates. If it’s finushed by end of September and oncologist says it’s ok, going to book cruise to Canary Islands for October 21. Fingers crossed. On a really good note my travel insurer is still willing to insure me after hysterectomy and brachytherapy without extra cost.

    Bad

None today, Ask me again tomorrow. Hopefully none then either.

  • Amazing weight loss Cornish! I'm trying to lose 8 lb for target weight but it seems to come off about 1 lb s s week!

  • Office politics are the only constant in every workplace! Used to be really bad in last workplace - good thing I got made redundant! Always a positive.

Have been awake since 3am  - am absolutely panicking about "what if's" with scan results. Have given myself a telling off so calmed myself down. Missing my son terribly as well.

When did life become all about results???

Cornish well done on the weight loss!!! That's great!

WQ - a lb a week is best way to maintain loss so that's excellent!

I was thinking of getting fat freezing done - seems to be the rage. Knew I should've married a plastic surgeon - money and would've looked good as well! And hardly seen him as consultants are very busy. Would've been a win-win. Missed the boat on that One!

It's raining here and it's making me sleepy but it's almost time to get up.

Have a good a day as possible ladies.

  • Morning peeps

  • Morning all

Good weight loss Cornish. Sorry I missed that one yesterday.

Hope everything goes well Jbains. Thinking of you today.

Off to see oncologist myself soon. Feel a bit apprehensive. Wary of surprises. Too early in the morning to panic!

Have a lovely day Sandra. Don’t get too worn out playing games.

  • Sundial no panicking. You're one step closer as Sandra says. You've got This! You're in the system now and going to be treated to get rid of this bas**** cancer. I shall send lots of positivity and strength to all those getting results, struggling on this rollercoaster and coping with life.

    You got this ladies!

  • Good luck today jbains and sundial. Results day always filled me with anxiety. Even though you try not to panic its natural that your thoughts start to run away from you.

Today I'm chilling.....am absolutely shattered. Off out again tomorrow to Woburn safari park so need to top up the energy reserves.

Hope all is well ladies x

  • Hi all

Three zaps of brachytherapy needed over two sessions a week apart at the end of September. Cancer all removed by surgery even though it was deep in the muscle of the uterus it was contained there. Brachytherapy is precautionary. Very relieved.

Hoping everyone else gets good news.
