Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Hello everyone, took Zippy out, it's his birthday, walked the woods in my yesterday trousers and my pj top which is Basically a black vest top as I was going out and didn't want to get dressed until later.  Got lost again seriously so, but Zippy dragged me through a bar gate and lo and behold I was outside Carolines house, she is Lisa's good friend, so puppy knew his way but that meant a two mile walk along the road and being in my vest top I was not going to do that, so off I went again but had no idea where I was, I seriously thought I'd be trekking around all day but bumped into an elderly guy who pointed me in the right direction, said he was doing a  circle and if he met me again would take me home!  that didn't happen so I made it, showered and dressed to next doors get together, but their  child had chicken pox so others had been invited, Jack had it though and Liz asked belatedly, after he'd sat on my knee, if I'd had it, fortunately yes. So another lady and her husband and two little girls aged five and three had come instead.  The girls were clingy and one blew raspberries at me, that's very rude said.Mum, my back was up as I feel children  nowadays rule the roost, give it an hour I thought and use Zippy as an excuse to leave.  But talk about don't judge a book by its cover, two hours in this young mum tells me she's had breast cancer, the three year old was only one and the other two years old.  She's only 33 years old herself and was so happy to be alive and happy, I'm pleased I stayed and got to know her.  Its boiling here so I now I'm in the cool house.  Christine the dog is a joy and I'll miss his little warm body and pink licky tongue when I go home.  Xx

  • Christine dear friend and dear Carol, this morning i decided to cut Bella treats down as she doesn't do much exercise and just eating and sleeping with a walk to back garden couple of times a day isn't much travelling.

Bella came in looked at treats sat and looked at me disgusted, wouldn't eat them until i put another treat with others.  I'm wondering who is the boss just lately.

Im going down town soon, on scooter just a bit of shopping and fresh air, check if any new shops around its surprising how shops keep changing or moving job to keep up.

Take care my dear friends very hot already.

    Love Billy xxxx

  • Deaa Billy and all, it's so hot here that even at 8am when I took my cup of tea into the garden I burnt my back on the garden chair!  Needless to say I'm staying in as it's scorching and the news keeps telling people to check in on the elderly, so that's me then checking myself.  Zippy started barking like mad again at 4am, it's a wonder I've  not had a heart attack as I'm sound asleep, eye mask on, that I finally retrieved from his  Jaws yesterday after two hours of ignoring him which didn't work, oh for gods sake I thought if it's that B milkman again I'm going to chase him down the drive whilst throwing five bottles of milk at him!  Zippy wouldn't shut up so in his cage he went again, his little tail wagging like mad when I finally got up at 8am. But No Milk.  I'm running out of cat food, although there was absolutely loads when they left, I'm struggling to stop Elvie eating Eddie's, Zippy eating everyone's, Eddie having to be locked in the hall whilst Zippy stares longingly through the glass door at him eating, don't laugh but Tugs told me that Elvie was allowed 165 grams and Eddie 175 grams, each day, yes well good luck with that he is obviously faster than me and Zippy, either that or he doesn't feed them himself! Lisa texted saying she will be mad if everyone is more tanned than her, well those left here are not on holiday sitting on their bum in a bikini whilst they are served cold drinks and splashing in the morning cool pool, most of us are feeding animals, walking them, making sure they don't get flattened on the road or burnt to smithereens.  Most of us are cleaning fridges out because the amount of food left would feed an army, oh and now I'm booked in to take Zippy to the groomers Saturday afternoon as I go for my paper, seriously its a good job I love them all.  Billy don't get burnt, I'm running out of treats as I keep throwing them on the garden to distract the dog whilst feeding the cat

. Booked my train for next Monday so yes Billy I've remembered where I live.  Oh and apparently my scan has now been seen by the consultant and a phone call for the 27th booked in, glad it's not serious!!! Love Carol x

  • Hi Carol and Billy,

I have laughed at both your problems with feeding the animals. Bella is obviously a mathematician and can count how many treats you give her, Billy.
You, Carol, will need a holiday by the time you get home! The joys of family life "Mum's on her own now, she'll be free to ...(insert verbs here)".
It has been so warm here that all my plans to lay a path into my front garden are still only plans. I was supposed to be going to find which stones I wanted but the furthest I got was up the lane with Archie. We went out quite early so his feet wouldn't get burned but I needed another shower when I got back, he didn't seem to mind, but did sit on his cool mat once he'd had his treat for doing good doggy business while outside. He might not be able to count how many he gets but he knows when to expect one and he tells me off if I forget. I am always amazed at his internal clock. Like Bella, he thinks he's the boss!

You will miss little Zippy when you get home, Carol.  When I took Archie out, I called in to see my friend up the lane, to ask about her husband's funeral. I waited at the door because I had Archie but she insisted on me bringing him in AND taking his lead off so he could wander, she gave me tea and cake, and said how nice it was to have company, although every other time I had been past her house there had been, at least, a couple of cars outside. Her son in law arrived while I was there and Archie followed him everywhere, I think he feels his life is lacking a man.  If there had already been any cars there today I wouldn't have "imposed" but when I said that she insisted she would always be glad to see me.  That almost feels like I have to go, now, and I'll feel guilty if I don't. I think I've mentioned a disabled neighbour I visit with the dogs because he loves to see them. I feel bad if I don't get to see him for any reason because he texts me asking if I'm ok! Then, when I have been, he texts me to thank me! I suppose I'm a bit independent, because, although I love to see my family and friends, I don't need them to keep me happy. Lockdown didn't change my life at all, really. I still took the dog(s) out and passed the time of day with my dog walking neighbours, and kept up with my friends on FaceTime. The only difference was having food delivered, and not seeing my son except on the iPad.  My daughter was the one delivering food, not only to me, but also to her older neighbours who were sheltering.  Her online order used to be huge, she got things for so many!  I have one friend who has been widowed for twenty years and she can't bear to be alone. She has groups of friends everywhere, and keeps them compartmentalised so she knows exactly what she is doing and with whom, every day of the week.  She makes me feel exhausted she is so busy going here and there.
I'm glad your consultant doesn't think your problem isn't serious. The length of time before your appointment sort of gives it away, doesn't it?

Billy, I loved that you can take Bella on the scooter with you. My son is a motorbike fan and he takes his little dog in a special pannier above the petrol tank, and she wears goggles, too. She won't let him go out on the bike without her!

Take care, both, don't get up to too much activity in this heat,

    love

    Christine xx

  • Hi Billy and Christine, it's so hot here that Zippy and I did not sleep at all well, he knows there is a fox, which worryingly sloped across the garden yesterday whilst we were outside, I thought it was a big cat but saw its bushy tail and knew that no cat has a tail like that!  Zippy went mad weaving in and out if all the bushes following it's scent, so he knows it's there at night and does he let me know it!  I had to put him in his cage again at 7am, I was so tired after a bad night and his barking.  9am we went through the woods but he got a spur stuck in his fur, that was fun trying to extract that from him, the pavement was getting warm so he trotted at twice his pace to avoid it, don't laugh but I was so worried that I took my shoe off and tested the pavement to make sure it wasn't burning his little feet, the things we do for our grown up children.  You're right Christine I will miss him but I will enjoy a good night sleep.  I've had to sit inside because it's unpleasant outside, isn't it ridiculous, we want warmth then it's too hot, the garden needs watering but it will have to wait until later or I may end up falling in the flower beds and becoming compost, at least I'd be top of the range compost.  Lisa has so many cushions and blankets on the wrap around sofa that it's boiling hot to sit on, they all end up on the floor until bedtime.  If I could be bothered I'd get the bus into Hazlemere but I think it's too hot to even do that.  Faye rang last night, her trip with 60 five year olds did not go well, the coach had no open windows and it was so hot the air con was blowing warm air out.  She had a parent Dad assigned to help her, she said now she knows why some of the children are like they are!  He just did his own thing, bought a drink for him self and his child which was not allowed, only water FAYE reprimanded him, why, he asked, because fizzy cans are not allowed during school trips, he tried swapping every ones lunches around by saying they should share the food to make it interesting, yes Faye said it'll be interesting when one of them ends up in Hospital because they have eaten something they're allergic too!!  That's my girl, she takes after me, takes no prisoners.  Anyway it was not a good trip and she was exhausted.  Back out again about 7am to give this mischief another walk.  Billy hope you're coping, Christine I can't believe you were going to lay a path in this heat.  Xx

  • Dear Carol im managing ok,got windows closed and back door open, got fly screen on that one so not many flying critters get in got the fans running to circulate air and cool house down, 22°in living room, with the draught it's quite bearable. Been for a run (on scooter)wind in my hair and flies in my mouth.!!! .

Going to Brenda ward tomorrow, tv card and chilled drinks. Brenda's BP was low in the night but ok later.

I got fed up watering garden last year bought a cheap hose strapped it round the fencing and proded holes where needed, so all i do is turn water on and leave it half hour and done. Should have done years ago.

I tried taking Bella around leasure centre early morning, just across road but she just sat and wouldn't move despite plenty of grass and doggy scents she'd rather lay in front of fan. Thinking of you checking wether to hot with your feet.

    Love Billy xxxx

  • Dear Billy, I nearly had a fit as I th you'd actually gone for a run, in this heat I thought, he's gone mad.  What a brilliant idea with the hose, Lisa must have done the same as each time I water the gardrn I get soaked, I think hers is more of a leak by accident than o purpose.  What are they doing with your lovely Bren, it seems to be one thing after the other for you both..  I do hope you have her home soon, it's very lo Ely without your other half, isn't it?  I've walked the dog again but had to come home and shower as its humid and not pleasant.  So I'm now sat with my gin and tonic, but the ice is melting quicker than I can drink it, mind I'm sure if I tried I could keep up.  Keep cool, Stay fresh,  xx

  • Zippy had me up at 3.15am, I was not amused as it was so hot I hadn't been asleep for long, he ended up in his cage and I slept until 7.30, I'd stood for ten minutes on the doorstep last night trying to coax Elvie and Eddie in, but as one came in the other chased it out, I gave up and locked them out for the night and thought if you get eaten by the fox don't blame me, fortunately both were peering through the window as I got up.   On the milk saga, can you remember the song "No milk today my love has gone away" think Herman and the Hermits, well I had four pints left in the fridge but because I'd had so many I had no idea what day was what, so everyone of them was sour!!  I had to walk to the village to buy some.  Its far too hot again so I've been trying to find a movie but they're all so boring.  I've booked my train home as the smart meter that doesn't read the electric meter since being installed was being fixed, the date has been booked for weeks, they rang and cancelled  it today, I was so mad, I think I'll ask them to remove the whole lot, Norman never wanted one and after all this I can understand why.  Zippy is sound a sleep after his hour walk and when it cools down I'll go out with him.  I've been looking at bus times for tomorrow and may go to Haslemere for a look out, I've seen no one all week apart from other dog walkers so it would be nice to have a little retail therapy and coffee in a cafe.  Hope all of you are keeping safe and cool,  Carol x

  • Morning dear Carol .our (Brenda's ) Bella. Is being a pain she'll get out of bed, sit watching me for ages despite wanting out and doors open, until i say go out, when she comes in it's same wont even get treats until i say go. She's only started doing this last few days.

It's cooler out yet here. Just noticed weather on TV in 30ies next week

Glad you are getting out and about plenty.

    Take care.

    Love Billy xxxx
