Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Hi Carol and Billy,

That makes you sound like a couple!
I totally agree that we must be blessed with stronger psyche's  than a lot of people. I often thank  goodness for giving me a sense of humour, even if it is a bit darker these days.  Thank goodness you got Zippy to the vets, too, those darned grass seeds will burrow their way into the brain if left!  Just a word of warning, cat food is bad for dogs because  the protein content is higher than dogs need. Archie got into my neighbour's cat's food when we were visiting, one day, and he was quite off colour for a couple of days.

Billy, what can I say? You don't deserve the trauma you're being dealt with on a daily basis. I so hope the vaccinations do their job and keep Brenda free from Covid and you are able to visit her soon.

I have just come back from visiting a neighbour, who lives 'up the lane' where I walk Archie. I have only  known her and her husband to chat to, just from passing their house every day. I never knew their surname even. Yesterday, as I was taking Archie up the lane, she was coming down in a car with her daughter. She made her daughter stop the car to tell me that her husband had just died, literally that morning.  She asked me to pop round today, and, of course, I did.   This couple reminded me of Billy and Brenda, in a way. She is a very young looking eighty year old, ten years older than him and in quite poor health, but  he seemed very fit and well, took good care of her, and whenever I saw him he was mowing their vast lawn.  She just said, yesterday, that he had a stroke, but she told me today that nothing they did for the stroke helped so after no improvement they did different tests and found he had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. They stopped all treatment and food and drink, and told her it was just a matter of time. She got him home, because she didn't want him to die in hospital and he passed away peacefully, with his family around him, a couple of days later. She is in that state of shock and disbelief that allowed her to talk about it without getting upset and she realises that it hasn't hit her yet.  I've promised to call in, when I take the dogs up the lane, just to keep an eye on her. She has her daughter with her now, and her other daughter is on her way, but she will need company when it's all over.  So we might be victims of a curse, but we are certainly not alone!

Thankfully, I don't feel so hungover today, but my head is not quite right, sort of fizzy round the edges! I mowed the lawn, though, and it really needed it, even though I cut it every week, it had been too wet for a few days so it was knee high in parts. I'm going to catch up with the tennis, if I can. I understand I missed a lot over the weekend.

Take care, sending good vibes to you both

    Love,

    Christine xx

  • Dear Carol and Christine, i phoned up to ask how Brenda slept, and when visiting will be on again and nurse said you can visit as Brenda's ward is clear, (there's alot of 4bed wards in a block).

I had to go to Brenda's psychiatric ward to pick up her clothes and stroller so i wasn't far from her hospital so popped into asda and got her a good pair of headphones for the TV as she doesn't like the cheap foam ones the nurse got her, she was thrilled with them (very bright rainbow colours) .before i left dr or someone came in with a young lady carrying the paperwork, think he was trying to look important, he didn't even look at Brenda's paperwork, didn't know why she was there or she'd come from psychiatric ward. I was not very impressed.

Really glad zippy is sorted, not sure about taking for a walk and getting lost, might be good idea taking chalk with you and marking where you go or a big ball of string. Or less, G and T.

Christine not sure about all those tests you had especially as you had vertigo and still had to get home hope you didn't have some of carols G and T before going to settle your nerves.

Hope both you ladies can get a few good days with nothing going wrong,.

    Love Billy xxxx

  • Billy,

It's no wonder we all love you! You make me laugh out loud with your dry humour. I would have loved a G&T, but no, I didn't have one.  I might be resting in a morgue if I had, it was difficult enough driving with vertigo when sober!

That character who came in to Brenda's ward sounds like the oncologist I had to see after my operations, only interested in their own opinions and doesn't want to hear what the patient thinks.

I got a survey to fill in, today, about my experiences at the imaging session on Saturday.  When it came to the end, the last question asked if I would do it again in 12 months. I answered with a NO!  Then they said "if you answered no to the last question, would you mind telling us why.  I told 'em!!!

Glad to hear Brenda is back in her own ward and is happy with her new headphones.

    Love,

    Christine xx

  • Dear Billy and Christine, is there ever a day when nothing goes wrong, if so I'd love to have one.  So here goes, Elvie came in last night but disappeared again, I gave up and went to sleep, 3.45 this morning I wake up and she's sat on my bed miaowing at me, Zippy chased her down the stairs, I grabbed her and wrangled her into her cage, drew the curtains and left her until this morning until I'd had a shower and fed Zippy.  She drove me mad all morning, so out she went in the garden, I set off with Zippy for his walk, he kept dragging me back up the hilly lane, so when I looked back there was Elvie trotting behind us, I nearly had a fit as the lane is narrow and busy, Zippy ran after her with me hanging onto his lead, she zig zagged across the road trying to avoid him, a 4 x 4 range rover was hurtling down the hill and I was frantically waving my free arm in the air to stop him from running her over, it's Lisa's birthday today and I did not want to mention a splattered road kill cat to her!  I finally got her in the house and shut all the windows before going out again, it was boiling hot and the sweat was running off me, Faye rang and I relayed the story to her she was in hysterics but i'll never look after this bloody cat again, poorly leg or not she's going into a cattery.  So again tonight she's missing, I've shut my bedroom door just in case!  Lisa face timed me from Greece, they were eating on a roof terrace at a new restaurant, she looked very pretty and Harry very handsome.  She thanked me for everything and was very happy to see all the animals on face time.  Let's hope tomorrow is a little less fraught.  Take care, Carol x

  • I'm sorry, but that does sound like a comedy sketch. Was hilarious.  Never work with children or animals, they say.

  • Morning dear Carol and Christine  did some early shopping, things for Brenda and fuel for car and of course treat for Bella. Then wait for usual phone up time and bang, complete lockdown on Brenda ward.

Bella went out early usual doggy business, including a good wee and poo and check on flowers and a good lay on the wet grass so i can dry her, daily routine she loves. Then in for her treat (food) then back to sleep.

Carol i reckon Christine has been at your private stock of tipple when you weren't watching  .

Hope things go better today (not really) love your things going wrong outsmarted  by a cat. And sometimes a dog  .

Take care try and keep positive.

    Love Billy xxxx

  • Hi everyone, another night another saga, couldn't find the cat again, left a note for the milkman as he is now leaving five  pints of milk and there's only me.  Zippy sat on my pillow so I ended up with  two foot of bed to myself but fell asleep.  3.50 am again he let's out this rip roaring wooing that nearly gave me a heart attack.  He wouldn't pack in so I get up as next door have two young children so I didn't want them to wake up.  He found Elvie under Lisa's bed, chased her downstairs with me following, I peered through the three small panes of glass in the front door and a man in a hi viz jacket was stood on the doorstep, I froze but Zippy was giving it rockall, the man bent down and picked my yellow stick it note up and read it, I suddenly realised it was the milkman!  So off back to bed we go but he wouldn't settle, (the dog not the milkman) so both he and Elvie were put in their separate cages so I could get some sleep.  And guess what? Five more pints of milk and a loaf of bread had been left for one small person, I had to WhatsApp Lisa and beg her to cancel the milk from Greece.  So two men turned up in a big van apparently my daughter had arranged to have the lawn treated, good to know as now the dog has to be kept in all afternoon and I have to water the lawn for the next few days, now that might not sound like much but bear in mind developers are always asking Tugs to sell half his garden to erect a house and it gives you some idea of my watering!  Billy I'm so sorry to hear about Brenda, like I say not much luck all round for us.  I wasn't going to have a gin last night, silly me, the doorbell rang, yes Lisa's in the gin club so more gin, I've had to drink some because I would hate to think that I'm rude not drinking what was especially purchased for me!!  Take care all of you, ProfBaw, glad  you had a laugh at my expense!!  Carol x

  • Hi Carol, and you Billy, cheeky monkey!

I have been in discussion with several people, recently, who think the world has gone insane and everything that is happening to individuals is part of the madness!  I can't say I disagree.
I do think the cat and dog saga and the middle of night milk man episode should be made into a film.  If I were you, Carol, I would drink the gin and drown the cat in the milk!  Not really, I would probably stash the gin away and drink the milk! I drink a ridiculous amount of milk in my coffee.

Today, I didn't get up until after 8 am.  Usually I'm up some time between 7 and 7.30. My alarm goes off at seven, then Archie jumps up and licks me into submission and I get up. Last night, however, I forgot to take my meds before going to bed  I realised, after watching the political nonsense that was being reported everywhere, that it was nearly midnight and I was still awake   Normally, one of my meds sends me gently off to sleep after an hour or so.  I got up and trotted into the kitchen, and sure enough there was my pot of 8pm meds still sitting on the counter. I fell asleep fairly quickly after that and didn't move until my hand stretched out to switch off the alarm  The next thing I knew was my phone ringing for my 8o'clock FaceTime call from my daughter.  Archie must have realised he wouldn't be able to wake me, as I don't think he tried, although he may have tried to waken me and gave it up as a bad job. My daughter was shocked to see me still in bed but when I told her the tale aout the meds she said it would probably take me until midday to get going now, and, guess what!  She was right!  I'm still in my pj's watching the special news programme on BBC and idly checking up on my emails etc. Archie has, obviously, read the situation very well, as he has stopped looking at me expectantly for his walk, and  has gone to sleep.

Billy, at least Brenda can now watch her tv, comfortably with her new headphones. As you can see, I'm clutching at straws trying to find a positive in Brenda's situation.  I'm glad you are not Covid positive,  and I'm hoping Brenda remains free of it, too!

i really need to get moving, so I will close, now. Here's hoping the world's insanity will, at least, leave us alone for a while!

    Christine xx

    Love Billy xxxx

  • Hi Billy,

My goodness, you need a holiday after your busy morning today,  on top of yesterday's running round. Glad Brenda will be happy, now.  I can remember when my mum was in hospital in a large ward where the tv was hanging from the ceiling at an angle, so  mum couldn't see it.  I ended up buying her a little hand held one so she could at least watch her Coronation Street. It made such a difference being able to pass the time with her favourite programmes. It probably didn't cost much more than you are paying for Brenda's viewing.

Carol, it sounds like you are going to be in for some more hot weather, so no rain for the lawn.  I am impressed by your courtesy in drinking the gin!!  I hope the family appreciate it.

Tennis, for me, this afternoon. I like Djokovic and it is amazing to see a Brit play him in the semifinals, so this is the best way to watch tennis, liking both players allows you to appreciate every point and be happy whoever wins!

    Take care both of you,

    Christine xx
