Stay Strong

I have a busy day and come home to my lovely neighbour mowing my back lawn.  I chastise him and say  I would have got round to it, he knew I was struggling and came in whilst I was out.  These kindnesses make my day.  I think hubby is not looking well and voice my concerns.   Nope he says he's fine but a little niggle tells me otherwise.   I get up this morning and he admits he's not good..  appointment at Doctors and he has another infection.  I am being picked up by a friend to go to Wynyard Hall and gardens, the day is glorious and she has the soft top down,we arrive and I look like Bridget Jones after her ride in an open top car!  We have home made cake and coffee and meander the beautiful gardens looking at the pumpkins, sweetcorn and variety of flowers.  I suddenly spot a flower that hubby and I keep seeing  on our drives and it's driving him insane not knowing its name.  A lady hears us talking, takes a photo, Googles it and walks back to tell me, it's  called the common tansy. People are so thoughtful and kind!  Back home hubby laughs at the state of my hair, saying I look like I have been pulled through a hedge backwards,  charming!!  I tell him the plants name, lovely he says and promptly falls asleep on his sheepskin in the sunny conservatory.   Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon, I want my normal hubby back.

  • Dear Carol.
What great news from the Oncologist, just a shame he is still in pain from shingles.  Good to let Norman think he's so much better, keeps hope alive, and that helps enormously.  Didn't they pull that tooth out?  Phantom pain?  So long as the rat plays nicely, I guess he's not doing any harm.  Mice don't worry me but I'm not keen on rats.  Surely Mary will get over it and contact you before long.  That seems a little harsh to be throwing men out for shaking hands, surely if they've sanitized their hands it really can't cause any problems.  I get it but it does seem harsh.  Hopefully he'll behave and not get thrown out.
I hope your mistaken about Norman becoming unwell again.  We can usually tell though.

I've been busy, have done more flower deliveries for Deana and her banking.  On Sunday we went to Apollo Bay.  My MIL is in hospital (has been for nearly 3 weeks now.  Dean, Bree and I went but I didn't go and visit her.  Even if I wanted to they wouldn't have let me as I haven't had my flu shot yet.  They did a scan yesterday, they think she has Parkinson's.  But we did call in at the house and caught up with his Dad.  He's such a lovely man and welcomed me home.  I haven't been tto the house in over 5 years.  His Mum and I don't get on.  Had a great day I called in at a friends shop and spent a couple of hours there.  It was really good to catch up.  Yesterday I took Eli to Daycare as Deana was at the flower market and Nick's hours have changed and he now starts at 5.30.  So it was up to me yesterday, then I had him today.  A couple of nice days weather wise, but not for long, come the weekend it's horrid again.

Take care, lots of love.  Sue xx

  • Dear All, we've had a really lovely week even though it was treatment week but as usual with this man of mine things have today badly gone wrong.  As it was such a beautiful day I agreed he could go to the golf club, have a gentle ride round, knock a few balls about, but he's just got home covered in bruises, cuts and broken sunglasses because his buggy broke down so he tried to walk carrying his shoes and water bottle, rested on a fence post that wasn't fixed and went headfirst on his face and arms into the path.  Why he couldn't have left everything on his buggy, or rang Don to help is beyond me, it turns out that although he had his phone he's never put Don's number in it, I truly despair as this is going to knock him sideways.  His buggy is still on the golf course, I suggest my brother who is a mechanic, has his own business and works in Richmond could help, he apparently wouldn't know how to fix a stupid golf buggy!  This is a man who worked on the oil rigs in the 1980s, was actually on the one that caught fire, helped everyone off it as he was the main safety man, but wouldn't have a clue how to fix a little buggy.  That's it, he can sort it out himself but you and I know that he will talk about it incessantly, worry himself stupid and drive me bonkers, thank God the lockdown is easing next week, at least I can escape! Sue I'm pleased you can get out more, I'm meeting some friends next week in the village but Mary won't come, she's bad enough to drag out when things were normal so it's even harder now. She's following Joe's rules and he won't even go for a ride in the car.  So take care all of you, love Carol x

  • Dear Carol,
Poor Norman!  I'm sure your brother would be able to fix his buggy, although I'm guessing if Norman had thought of him, that would be fine.  They are easing our restrictions, not quickly but it's improving.  We really haven't got that many still catching the virus, and most of us have the tracking app on our phones, so the minute anyone does get it all their contacts are isolated.  We are averaging less than 25 cases a day.  And no recent deaths.  I think the government locked down here before we had too many cases and most of them came of cruise ships.

We have had a lovely meal tonight from a restaurant, nicest one in Colac.  Starter of scallops and chorizo, entree of chicken skewer, roasted carrot and feta croquette, main of braised beef cheeks with mash and beans with trffle oil and a rocket, orange, fennel and parmesan salad.  Then dessert of sticky date pudding with caramel sauce and cream.  The restaurant has been closed but they have been doing take-away meals on Friday night.  We didn't eat dessert untill 11pm, we were so full from the rest.

Good to hear you are able to get a little also, and meet some friends.

I don't have anything planned for the weekend but I'm hoping to go to Bree's one day next week.  I need to wash my quilt and as it's king size I need a huge washing machine, there is a laundromat just round the corner from Bree's, where I can get it washed and dried.  It won't fit in my washing machine and we don't have any big ones in the laundromats here unfortunately.  I ended up ordering some wool to make a scarf/wrap.  I love the pattern but didn't have the right ply wool or colour.  I've ordered a 4-ply wool yarn in a navy blue.  Goodness know how long it will take, the postage is so slow since this virus, everyone is ordering online.  So I have to be patient.

Have a lovely weekend and take care.  Love to all.  Sue xx

  • Hi sue.

If you were try to make everyone hungry buy telling us what a lovely meal you had it worked.

I'm surprised Norman hasn't realised the lady of the house is always right, i found that out in the first year of marriage.

I got a phone call from oncology secretary I've got a phone consultation Sunday morning to get my results and find how things are going. (thought things must be getting behind if there working Sundays).

Glad your getting out and about and feeling OK.

    Love to all, Billy xxx

  • Dear Billy,

Sorry about that, it wasn't my intention to make you hungry, it was so good I just had to share.

Some men never realise that women are nearly always right, I won't go so far as to say always.

They must be way behind if they are doing phone consultations on a Sunday.

Hope you and Bren are doing as well as you can.

    Take care,  Sue xx

  • Dear Carol,

What an interesting day.  Poor Eli isn't well,  He woke up early this morning crying with a temp.  They couldn't get a Dr's appointment for him so ended up taking him to A&E.  They have tested him for the virus, they don't think he has it but with the temp and he does have the snffles (just a cold), they have to.  Poor little mite has an ear infection and perforated eardrum.  No wonder he was so miserable,  But now we are all self-isolating until his results come back, which they say usually take 5 days but if busy up to 10.  They gave Nick a certificate for his work.  None of us are to leave the property  We did an online shop this afternoon  for delivery tomorrow.  A friend actually went to the supermarket to get milk, as we had just about run out.  How quickly things change, so no trip to Bree's this week.  At least Eli did seem a little better before bed this evening.

Take care, love to all Sue xx

  • Dear Sue and Billy.  Sue what an awful thing to happen to poor little Eli, ears are so painful, I've always had problems with mine and had to wear a woolen scarf to play netball, so no wonder his temperature was so high.  Its such a hard time, we  all sail along thinking alls well then Bamm the rug is pulled from under your feet.  I pray all goes well for you all.  Billy please let us know how it goes with you tomorrow, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.  Norman is in pain today and when he got back home from sorting his buggy out he slept the afternoon away.  He's now eating steak and onions although his mouth hurts. Sue you're meal sounded fabulous Dahling!  I would so love to go out and eat and not have to cook for once.  Another beautiful day here, I had a walk and Isabella was just getting home so we had a chat, Anne came out, her knee operation was cancelled because of covid19 and in the last ten weeks her leg has become deformed, pointing to the right instead of forwards she can hardly walk.  There are going to be so many people who suffer because of this virus even though they haven't had it.  I truly feel a lot more could have been done for others, they have been neglected and abandoned and left to rot in their homes.  Norman is adamant that he will not stay in any longer and do you know what, I don't blame him.  He doesn't mix with anyone, he puts himself at the forefront when having immunotherapy, life is hard enough without sitting staring at four walls.  Sue please tell me how Eli is getting on.  Much love to you all,  Carol x

  • Dear Carol.
Eli is such a tropper.  It's obvious he still isn't well but even saying that he was such a happy little boy today, playing, laughing.so much more like his usual behaviour.  Our meal was wonderful, so worth the splurge on it.  What they have been doing here is our local taxi service (to supplement their income) has been picking up take-away food orders and delivering them (only charging $5) which it seems a lot of people have been doing.  Our local pubs and other eateries have mostly still been open for take-away meals.  They have started doing surgeries again here although I imagine it will be a while before they sort of catch up.  Poor Anne, it is so hard when you need an operation on your knee, and it does affect how you move and causes all sorts of problems.  I know from experience.  (i was months seeing a podiatrist correcting the damage to my foot.)  It's good now through and eventually I'll get the left knee done Although it has improved so much with the weight I lost.
So sorry to hear Norman is in pain after his tumble (I'm assuming that's why), hopefully that will ease over the next couple of days.

Billy, so sorry to hear your results were not good.  Hopefully it won't be too long before you have the CT and bone scans and then a plan for further treatment.  Stay positive.

Love to all, take care.  Sue xx

  • Dear all, what a beautiful day again.  Hubby received an e mail from the golf club asking how he was as someone had reported his fall.  He was chuffed to bits but as he'd leant against a fence post not secured I thought they are scared he will sue!!  We have driven the moors and surrounding villages today, at Stanhope it was a bustling family day, the river was heaving with young children and Mum's holding hands so they didn't fall, the ice cream van was doing a roaring trade so I left hubby in the car and socially distanced in the queue, two 99 cones were purchased and eaten in the sunshine. He's in the garden now drinking Peroni larger and devouring the Sunday papers.  Billy I can't see where Sue has got your results from, please let me know what happens.  Sue its such a relief about Eli, he is obviously resilient like most two year old children usually are.  Sarah is back tomorrow a clean home will be lovely to see.  Take care of yourself all of you.  Love Carol x

  • Hi Carol. I always chat the ladies up on "the good and the bad".

I could be two months before i know anything after I've been for my scans and another blood test..

Last cancer check was 2.2 and it was two years before it was 0.03 so rising slowly today's results 26.5 so a big jump up, oops. Still not to worried yet when first diagnosed it was 1581 and i still felt OK. So have to see what happens and treatment option.( still hate chemo).

Norman is keeping going so he's getting there. Glad you both enjoyed your time out and those lovely ice creams.

    Love to all.... Billy xxx
