Radio iodine treatment

Hello out there. I'm going in for radio iodine treatment next week after surgery for papillary thryoid cancer. I've read the very useful information on this website but I wondered if anyone had any specific tips having had the treatment themselves?  Many thanks for any helpful info.

  • Hello.  I had papillary thyroid cancer, 26 years ago. Treatments have improved since I had it but I remember that my radio-iodine treatment  was ok.  The worst thing was being radioactive & being in quarantine in a horrible room for a weekend with everything wrapped in plastic & all my plates stacked up! If they still do that, take lots of things to do.  I was very bored.  The other thing I didn't like was having to stiop & start my hormone tablets during the treatments. I stayed on T3, liothyronine, & wouldn't take thyroxine when the treatment stopped because T3, which was meant to be temporary, suited me. I still take it. The treatment was a complete success, it completely wiped out all thyroid tissue .I'm sure yours will be the same.
