Some goodish news, but more tests needed.

Hi forum buddies,

I hope you don't mind if I have a bit of a rambling rant, but I'm just  back from the appointment to discuss the results of my last lung CT scan.

I only had the scan last Friday and was pleased that the requesting doctor (liver surgeon) was 'on the ball' and had sent a clinic appointment for today. (Turns out it was the specialist nurse who was actually on the ball with the appointment.)

Unfortunately, the doctor hadn't been able to meet with the radiographer before today's appointment so although he was 'reading' the report to me, he didn't seem as up to speed with information as he usually does!

The upshot was, there is still only one lung lesion, but it has doubled in size since the last scan back in May (still very small at 6mm.)

So next steps are an MRI of my liver to rule out any recurrence of cancer, another PET scan to see if the lung lesion is still 'hot' and that it is the only hotspot in my body and then an MDT meeting to discuss results and treatment options.

The liver doctor was talking chemotherapy again, but as I reminded him, I was intolerant to the mildest form I had last year!

He also said that the lung surgeons in this health authority region, are notoriously reluctant to do metastasised lung resections from primary colorectal cancer, but given my age he would argue my case and advise me to have it done. This of course, is all dependent on a clear liver scan and no other hotspots!

The specialist nurse was unavailable today, but she is going to ring me tomorrow, hopefully having arranged these two scans. (Hope she's on the ball there!)

As we left, the doctor did reassure me that the timescales involved wouldn't make any difference to my lung and to "try not to worry" and to "go and get on with your life."  I know what he meant, but once again, it's the age old 'waiting game' scenario!

I'm focussing on the positives that it's still only one lesion, but I think I'd stressed myself out so much before the appointment (worst case scenario mode!) I felt deflated rather than uplifted as I left the hospital.

(Apologies for any insensitivity in my rant, as I know many of you would do anything for this result!)

Rant over! Thank you for reading.

Love Jo xx

  • Hello Jo,

I've only just caught up with your thread, that's such positive news following your op, everything is crossed the results will back up the early indications.  I hope you are keeping your feet up with a large box of chocolates close to hand!

    Take it easy,

    Carolyn xx

  • Jo, Thats excellent news. Will keep fingers crossed for more positive news in 2 weeks. Keep your feet up and get lots of rest hun. I am sure that man of yours will be waiting on you hand and foot. Lots of love and hugs.

    Annabel. xx:D

  • Hi Jo, Delighted with your update. I hope you are resting up and being waited on hand and foot. Hope you have a great weekend Kathyxx
  • Hi all, just logged in to see yet more lovely messages! Thank you :) Well, it's certainly obvious that this surgery was no where near as major as the last lot (touch wood) as I'm feeling quite normal! ;) A few twinges he and there, but managing on paracetamol (though the hospital pharmacy halved my dose to one tab instead of two every four hours, as I'm below 50kg! I'm being well fed by my other half, though he still insists on serving man sized portions - the dog is enjoying the leftovers! Haha! Well, have a great weekend everyone . . . the weather doesn't look too promising, so maybe I'll spend some time practising how to use the new style forum! Still puzzling over some things! Love to all, Jo xx
  • Hi Jo, great to see you on here and even sounding chipper!!  Take good care of yourself and give yourself lots of time to recover. Hope all is good with your reports when they come in. Sure missed you on here, so get all rested up while you navigate the "new" forum.

Take care and all the best to you as you recuperate.  Lots of hugs.

  • Hi Jo That certainly sounds like good news! Now make sure you take it easy. Debbie X
  • Hi Jo Lovely to hear that your back home and resting. Have been back at work 2 weeks now and am quite enjoying the reduced hours (10 till 2) my dye test showed that i have healed nicely so can have reversal, just hope i dont have to wait too long. Hoping that you get good news when you go for your results Keep well Jayne x
  • Hi Debbie and Jane, Thanks for your messages! Not long back from having the staples out! Wince! 43 of them! I don't even use that many to put up wall displays at school! Jayne, that's great news about the dye test results. I hope you get a date through soon and I will certainly be following your reversal progress and picking your brains for hints and tips! How long will it be before you increase your hours? Remember to go steady! Well, another period of waiting for the official results, and then next steps are the referral onto the lung specialist. I'm just hoping the timing for surgery and recovery, fit in with my partner's daughter's wedding next March! Fingers crossed! Don't suppose I can request that they 'work round' the date! Haha! How are you both finding the new forum? I have a couple of gripes - I put my posts into paragraphs, but when I post them, the text just appears as a block - no spaces! I also don't see a tool bar with a smiley face icon and the bold and italic symbols! Ah well, I've got a telephone appt booked with one of the chat team to help them see how the forum is working (they will be able to see what buttons I'm pressing apparently! Technology eh?) Hugs to you both, Jo xx See what I mean about the paragraphs and spaces! Grrr!
  • Jo

Glad the staples are out I bet! Hopefully they held you back together as well as those papers you put up on the classroom walls

Hint - When you come to reply to a post, immediately above is the 'tool bar' - click and drag 'smilies' to where you want to put them. Not sure why you are not seeing paragraphs on your writing - could be a computer thing ha ha.  I think it will be helpful for those than can do feedback with the moderators.tech staff as that is the way to see changes.  I was approached too but cannot afford to spend 40min on our landline as its a direct emergency link for the Care Home for Mum.  Slowly by surely beginning to get back into the swing of things though.

    Look after yourself.  Hugs Jules
