Inflammatory breast cancer

Hi,

Today I was told my punch biopsy came back positive,  meaning the breast cancer has gone into my skin. Consultant didnt use the word "inflammatory" but did say this makes me more urgent...I was diagnosed 27th May but still waiting for treatment plan...they did say chemo first though. Be good to chat with anyone who has gone through/ is going through similar as I'm feeling very wobbly today x

  • Hello Mothergoose58

I'm sorry to hear that your recent biopsy confirmed that there was cancer present. It is possible for breast cancer to spread into the surrounding skin without it being inflammatory breast cancer, so it's worth checking with your cancer nurse or specialist to get some clarity on the type of breast cancer that you have.

I can see from another post that you made that your CT scan didn't raise any immediate cause for concern, and this is great to hear. Hopefully, the team have all the information they need now to decide on the best course of treatment, and they will be able to talk through these options with you soon.

This period of waiting can be really difficult, but many people say that once a treatment plan is started, they feel less anxious about things. If it would help to chat with one of our nurses while you're waiting for news then you're welcome to call them. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Moothergoose58 and let us know how you're doing. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your kind words and I have now had chance to talk to my breast care nurse which has helped. You're right...the waiting is the worst bit. Hoping to see the oncologist in next 7 to 10 days though :)

  • Hi Mothergoose58 I was wondering if you had your appointment with the oncologist yet?  For me the waiting was the worst bit as well, as soon as I had a treatment plan, I just wanted to get on with it.  I know what you are going through and happy to chat.

  • Hi Lee. I have my first appointment this week on Weds, followed by another CT scan to double check an adenoma they found on my adrenal gland. Hope your appt went well. Do you have chemo first? I'm HER2 positive with 6.4cm tumour so chemo plus herceptin is what I'm anticipating. Good luck on your journey and always here if you want to chat,  rant etc xx

  • Hi Mothergoose58.  I had PR and ER+ and HER2 - lobular breast cancer.  Tumor was 4cm I had lumpectomy first and then chemo and radiotherapy.  Good luck for tomorrow.  Please let me know how you get on.

  • Thank you Lee. Must admit I'm not looking forward to the journey but trying my best to remain positive and think about just getting on with it. The hardest bit is that I don't feel unwell and I know that the chemo may well change that. Also, love the sun but it's too hot today lol. Thanks for thinking of me. Hope your journey is going well and yes will let you know how I get on. Hugs xx

  • Hi Mothergoose,

I'm glad to hear that you have an appointment tomorrow and hope that all goes well for you. Most people don't feel ill with breast cancer, in fact, many don't even know that they have it, until they are tested for something else. Chemo is often used to reduce the size of a tumour, thus making it smaller, for the surgeon to remove the entire tumour. Naturally, this usually has better outcomes.

Please keep in touch as you travel your journey and remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
