Prostate Cancer, and hormone treatment.

Well here I am just about to have my last hormone treatment injection, third  (6 monthly injection)

Wondering what happens after i get it, do i see a cosultant, do I see cancer nurse, or is it another phone call?

I am doing well I believe, PSA originaly 21.5 now 0.68 and i have another PSA blood test coming up soon, (3 mths after last one).

Got aches and pains, got the hot flush’s, the tummy, and few other bits and bobs.

So does anyone have any idea what happens after you get your last hormone treatment jab?

I am on the PACE-NODES Trial.

In my mind I think its phone calls, but for me its the same as sitting talking to a doctor etc.

  • Rolfus here, ment to  say in last line ( but for me its not the same as sitting talking to a doctor etc

  • Hi Rolfus, I  too will be finishing hormone therapy, in about 7 weeks, I'm on Prostap3-3 monthly injections and Enzalutamide 160mg daily.

My situation is different to yours but I believe my post treatment care is pretty standard, with regular PSA tests, if they fall or remain stable, they will continue, a small rise will likely not be a concern, 2 small rises will call for a consultation, and scan, and 3 rises a return to some form of treatment. Should I remain stable for some time, 3 or 6 monthly scans will be done.

  • Hi Eddie, lovely to hear from you. I get my last 6 monthly injection beginning of March, had 2 so far. Don't take any tablets.

So for me my hormone treatment runs out in Sept. and hopefully the hot flush's will end then or before plus the odd other things caused by the hormone treatment.

All my follow up appointments after the injections except for my actual radiotherapy has been on the phone, its not the same as talking to someone face to face Eddie.

Thanks for your info I appreciate it.

  • Hi Eddie,

First of all I hope you're doing ok.

Well have just had an appointment with Clatterbridge Doctor (phone call)  this morning. He says I am doing really well my PSA is down and I get my last hormone injection next month. They will check me every 6 months now and in 2030 they will start checking me every 12 months so good news. Asked about the new tablets that are available now but he said that at moment I am too far into my hormone treatment to be able to get them, and also that at the end of Sept when my Hormone injection ends the hormone treatment could take up to another 12 months to be out of my system, which I didn't realise.

So will see what my PSA readings are after my blood test on 3rd March.
