Staring at the great wave rolling towards me - I was diagnosed with glioblastoma 2 weeks ago. Feeling quite alone. How do you stay positive?

Bit of an obscure title, reference to the Hokusai painting.

DX with GBM 2 weeks ago. Self employed, well was until the DX, can't now drive or work. No tears yet but I most feel sorry for my delightful wife who has just been burdened beyond belief. I didn't want this for her or me or us or my children.

I'm grateful for the love and support been shown to me. Feel quite alone right now, telling me to stay positive doesn't quite cut it. How do I stay positive? What is a mechanism to do that?

Hello and love to you all.

Male 62, father, will always try to do my best, whatever that might be.

  • Hello Noise-n-mess and thank you for posting,

It's a great reference, as I can imagine it can sometimes feel like you're alone and this wave is coming towards you so thank you for being honest and open. Please know that you're not alone and there is support out there.

Your medical team might be able to point you towards support available in your area and we have information on ways of coping and managing your wellbeing. You can find guidance around coping with brain tumours and how cancer can make you feel on our website.

It sounds like you've got a lovely family around you, so don't be afraid to be open with them. You're not going to feel positive everyday, but talking with people close to you can help you feel less alone.

I hope this helps in some way and do keep us updated,
