Lung cancer nodules

Hi

I wonder if anyone has experience of living with secondary lung cancer nodules and any treatments that may have worked for you. I got rectal cancer in 2019  but unfortunately it spread in Sep 2023 in the form of 3 tiny slow growing nodules in my lungs.  I am now on capecitabine chemo tablets to try to suppress them for as long as possible but just wondered if there was anyone out there who has been in a similar situation and may have some tips to share. My first recent scan after it came back has shown progress from the chemo so long may that continue!

  • I'm sorry to hear you are living with secondary lung cancer Wildandfree but it's great to hear your scan showed the chemo has been effective. As you say, long may it continue.

I do hope you receive some tips and advice from some of our members soon but whilst you wait you're very welcome to discuss this, and anything else that may be playing on your mind in relation to this, with one of our cancer nurses. They are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all that they can to help.

You may also be able to find others in a similar position and receive further support and advice through the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi wildandfree. Your story is eerily the same as mine (kind of)...diagnosed with rectal cancer oct 2023, radio done, currently going through chemo (capecitabine & oxaliplatin) & surgery after, if all goes well.

Just a side note to when I got diagnosed, I was told I had 3 nodules on my left lung, had a ct scan during my chemo for my lung and was told they're "not concerned".

My thought, is the capecitabine keeping the nodules from growing therefore making it look like they're not cancerous? So many thoughts but no worries as 1 cancer is enough to focus on at any given time.

  • Thanks so much for your reply. I have been hoping in the back of my mind they are not cancerous but my oncologist thinks otherwise and he should know. Having a biopsy on nodules on your lungs is notoriously difficult so we are making assumptions based on what they look like. Lets hope he's wrong! Good luck with your treatment.

  • I was same with my bowel after colonoscopy, doc said cancerous even before biopsies were tested...it's a fine line not wanting to believe them but equally trying to remind yourself they are the professionals.

I really do hope tests come back clean for you, still plenty of support on here regardless of the results.

Thank you, all the best for you too
