I am a 69 year old male from Altrincham near Manchester. I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in June 2019- stage T3n0m0- moderately differentiated adenocardinoma. I had 5 weeks chemoraditation therapy from August 2019 to shrink my tumour but this didn't work . I then had an ELAPE operation - a version of an APR - in December 2019 that was successful and then a Xelox programme that resulted in me being given a 'no evidence of disease' result in September 2020. I then had 3 years of clear scans until September 2023 when small mestasised cancer nodules were discovered in my lungs leading to a terminal stage 4 diagnosis . I then had 6 months of chemo tablets that stabilised the mets. I enjoyed15 months of normal life with 3 monthly scans showing the mets were stable. Now, in August 2025 the mets are growing again so I am back on the chemo tabs for at least 3 months.
