Try not to worry about surgery, it is not common for there to be complications. I had bowel cancer surgery in 2001 in my 30,s. Surgeons are highly experienced. I had Dukes B colorectal cancer, which just required surgery and no chemotherapy or radiotherapy. I was worried about my son who was only young at the time, but I focused on moving around after op, going for short walks, building up strength. Take any help you can from family and friends for a few weeks but you will be up and about in no time.

i have sigmoid bowel cancer and like you according to my CT scan it hasn’t spread. I have an operation in just over a weeks time , and like you i am also terrified, i am sure everything will be ok yes it will probably be a rough ride for a few weeks but hopefully see the light at the end of the tunnel, wishing you luck

Thats good news your cancer hasn’t spread.

You will come through this.After your op, consultant will encourage you to walk around, gentle exercise. Focus on getting fit again.

Hi Flyingicarus, really sorry you’ve had this news but such good news that it hasn’t spread. I’m sure whichever path you take, you will be well looked after by your team. I really hope you have some support around you. I’m sure the wonderful CRUK team will be able to provide guidance too. This community is so great and I’m so thankful to be able to share my bowel cancer journey and emotions. I hope you can draw strength here too. Take care of yourself. 

Thanks MamaC. Saw the consultant today and having a resection on 15th March, hopefully by keyhole.  All incredibly quick which I’m finding a little hard to come to terms with. My main priority is trying to arrange care for my husband while I’m in hospital. Two weeks to sort.
