Bowel cancer

Hi - I’m newly diagnosed with bowel cancer but pleased to say it has not spread and I’m seeing my consultant tomorrow to be told what the treatment will be. I have a fear of surgery as we had a friend who died from an infection after a knee replacement I know I’m being irrational particularly as I have less concerns if I need chemo. I think my mind is working overtime at the moment! And I admit I’m scared. My husbands had a stroke and totally relies on me for his every day care.

  • Hi Flyingicarus

Try not to worry about surgery, it is not common for there to be complications. I had bowel cancer surgery in 2001 in my 30,s. Surgeons are highly experienced. I had Dukes B colorectal cancer, which just required surgery and no chemotherapy or radiotherapy. I was worried about my son who was only young at the time, but I focused on moving around after op, going for short walks, building up strength. Take any help you can from family and friends for a few weeks but you will be up and about in no time.
