Hi it does vary alot with cancer and personal health but hopefully when treatment starts he will feel alot better, I've got advanced prostate cancer that's gone to lymph nodes spine ribs pelvis and a lung,I was still working after diagnosis,(metal fabrication and welding firm),i went into hormone therapy and had some  chemotherapy . I was 64when diagnosed ,My PSA was 1581 stage 4 T3B N1 M1B classed as palative care,I was diagnosed Feb 1216 ,I retired to look after my wife who was diagnosed with Parkinson's and Altzimers 

I've had treatment changed now and again to keep cancer count down but managing ok still gardening and housework,

if I can help with any thing please ask, don't forget im a cancer patient not medically trained.

i was diagnosed Feb 2016,it was when I first found out I had cancer, .I was actually being tested for sickness daily , that turned out to be a hiatus hernia. But one of the tests showed something else hence PSA test.

it is normally hormone therapy first, type can vary alot and strength.

Hope things go well with your husband,.

Remember to look after yourself as well, cancer doesn't just effect the one with it, it can affect the hole family.
