The waiting game

I'm so glad I found this forum and now know that waiting for results is difficult for everyone at times I think I'm just a negative person but it seems the waiting game is tough.  I had duct ecstasia around 8 years ago with no reoccurrence.  I recently decided I would get the lump checked behind my left nipple but wasn't concerned as my nipple has been inverted for 8 years and I fully expected to be told it's duct blockage again.  Came as a shock to find that's not likely. .  3 biopsies on lump and one in Lymph node.  Words used like worried and highly suspicious during consultation.  To be honest I'm in shock that awful sick feeling in your tummy and another ten days till results appointment.  I asked some direct questions but obviously she wouldn't commit till results are in but in her experience I will be having treatment. Keeping as busy as I can but an emotional wreck right now. Relieved to hear this is the norm for most of you awaiting results.

  • Hiya

I am new to the forum and I am so worried as well.

I found a lump on my right breast a couple of days ago and i have an appointment with my gp next Thursday...the waiting game is the hardest ...I cannot stop crying and thinking the worst...it is really hard .

I hope you get some great results .

  • You too it's a worrying  time for sure.  I feel exactly  the same.  My best day this week as so busy at work.  Distraction  seems to be the best thing right now. Hope your results are good too x

  • Tomorrow  will be better  hun. We are going to have some really rubbish days on this journey but there will be good days too as we adjust to this new way of life but remember  it's not forever.  Stay strong sending a huge hug. Sometimes  I feel a lot better after a good cry, don't bottle it up, taking is good. Take care  x

  • Hi ladies,

Madgee- going away for the weekend sounds lovely! Taking your mind off of things and spending some quality time is such a good idea. How are you feeling about Monday?
I'd bought a wig over the weekend (just from Amazon for fun) and have decided that I am fully going to embrace the shave and just use bandanas and wigs. It's just hair right? And when else do I get to wear wigs like that?

v1234- it's ok to have bad days. We're not robots and emotions and anxiety is high when you have to deal with this. Don't be too hard on yourself, try to take it one day at a time and tomorrow is a new day <3  you got this, you're strong!

Im starting to get a bit anxious about chemo coming up and side effects. Putting a brave face on, but I find it difficult waiting now for 2 weeks for it to start. I know it'll be hard so let's just get this over with! I'm also afraid that the cancer is slowly growing and spreading while I'm waiting for chemo to start, even though my oncologist has told me it won't go that fast. Anyone feels this? 90% if my day I'm my positive bubbly self, but the other 10% dark thoughts creep in..

Thank you lovely ladies for being here, you have no idea how much it means xxx

  • Hi lovely I'm really nervous about Monday but gone from dreading it coming to wanting to get started.   The sooner I start the sooner I get rid of it.  Pleases yr embracing the Wig situation.   We get  a voucher towards a wig apparently  but haven't got mine yet.  I've already decided when it grows back, I had long her right now, I'm going very white blonde and funky and I'm getting some doc marten boots, I'm definitely  going to embrace the cropped look.  Today is  a good day for me but I've had some shockers and suspect there will be more along the journey but at the end of this long journey I think there will be a new and better me x

  • Hi lovely ladies,

Madgee I really love the idea of the new look. Elvira114 I totally understand the fear of chemo starting and thinking if the cancer is growing inside you !!!

I am the same !! I know ,my Dr was saying the same ..it is slow growing but I just wanted out.....sometime si want to scream !!!

It is a better day today ,thank God it is a bit sunnier this morning in Glasgow...that definitely helps.

I am waiting now for my "" fish request" no idea what this was but after googling it ,I know now . The waiting game is torture !!

I am trying to be more positive today  I know everything will be OK, for all of us

Thank you so much for keeping in touch , it helps so so  much .

I am sending  positive energy and hugs to you both xxxxx

  • Hello lovely ladies,

Im also loving the idea of a new look!! I'm really enjoying the wig shopping so I think I might embrace this too.
I know exactly how you feel with the anxiety on chemo, but simultaneously wanting it to start. I've heard that the nurses are incredible in helping managing side effects. So we'll be in great hands!

I'm glad you had a better day V1234, and like you said we will all be ok. We got this!! Cancer might be strong but we are stronger <3

Please do explain what a fish request is? I haven't heard of that term yet.

    Sending hugs xxx

  • Hi Elvira114,  Hi Madgee

I am glad to hear from you Elvira114 and how you enjoying the wig shopping.  I will probably need your advice when I start my chemo.

Fish request is extra tests that they do using the biopsy they have initially taken. It seems that my braest cancer is hormonal and because I have 2 lumps they had to check both of them about the her2  ...I have asked the Dr and he said that if both are negative I might not need chemo..

    I hope this makes sense!!

    Have a lovely evening both.

Sending lots of love to you both .xxxx

  • I am thinking of you. I hope you've enjoyed your weekend!

i'm sending you all the strength and positive thoughts for tomorrow. You're strong, and we are with you every step of the way!

Please let us know how you are xx

  • Hi lovely ladies,

I hope you had a restful weekend .

Thinking of you Madgee. I know everything will be absolutely fine.

Sending love and hugs to both of you.xxxxx

  • Oh thank you  Elvira114  and V1234 I had such a lovely time I cried when it ended.  Had my hair cut really short tonight and it's OK.  I also got my wig trimmed which looks better than my own hair so that's given me a lift.  When I get home tomorrow  that's one chemo down 5 to go and thats the first big step.  Will let u know how I get on.  Kindle charged and loaded. Spotify playlists ready.  Candy Crush ready to go.  Just need to hold my nerves.  How are you my lovelies Hope your both holding up and trying to be as positive as possible.   It's a journey but it's not forever.  Have you anymore updates ladies ? Sending loads of love to you both.

  • I'm so glad you had a lovely time!! You sound very well prepared and I'm convinced you got this lady. The countdown can begin now, and exactly like you said it's not forever!

my update.. ive finished my fertility treatment this week (went well they got quite some eggs out ️) and had my port placed in my arm on Thursday. I didn't even knew that was possible, I thought they always went in your chest!
I start Zoladex tomorrow (for ovarian suppression to give me better chances at keeping fertility after chemo). I've spoken to my oncologist a few times as I've been concerned about changes in my breast but he thinks it's mainly driven by the hormones I've been taking for fertility, so I'm trying my best to keep calm until I start chemo on the 22nd.

I'm starting with EC and then moving on to paclitaxel and herceptin. They've given me a lot to read but the nurses were lovely! Feel very happy they've given me a 24hr line to call in case I need them. It's nice to know they're people ready to help you.

All in all.. im doing ok ️ My brother was over this week from back home (im Dutch originally) and that was a great distraction. Now im ready to kick cancers butt!!

Let us know how you get on. Sending love xxx

  • Hello Elvira114 and V1234 how are you two lovelies?

Just wanted to update you both.  I had my first Chemo yesterday and have to say you have nothing to stress about at all.  I had an hours wait as do busy I met some of the loveliest patients men and women in the waiting area and we all chatted it was so reassuring and got lots of tips.  I then went for my treatment and the nurse administrating the chemo was fabulous.  Mine was put in to a cannula  slowly thru syringe not sure everyone's is done like this.  Mine took an hour and we chatted the whole time she was lovely.  I did not feel stressed at any point so please don't worry. I did feel unwell this morning but have improved as day gone on but don't want to say to much as think I might feel a bit more rubbish tomorrow.  I had to go back for heart scan today and didn't feel up to it really but all went fine and spent afternoon on sofa.  I had a fresh soup with bread for tea and enjoyed it, not my normal appetite.  Just know how worried you will be and you don't need to be.  It was quite a nice social experience.  Here if u need to ask anything stay strong and don't worry girls we are going to get through this ️ ️ ️ ️

I wish you both have a good night , rest well. Xx

  • Hello lovelies,

Madgee thank you so much for your reassuring message! I'm not going to lie, with chemo coming up on Monday I am really anxious at the moment but your message really helped!!

I hope you're still feeling relatively ok and that the side effects are manageable!

V1234 - I know your MRI scan is coming up too, I'll be thinking of you. Hope you're doing ok at the moment?

    Stay strong ladies ️

  • Hi lovely ladies!

I hope you are both well.

I am thinking both of you. I am always so happy to see a message that I have an email from ine if you great ladies.

My mri is on Monday morning, I am a bit scared but it needs to be done !

I did have a call yesterday from one ofvthe nurses to let me know that my operation is on the 9th of December..I am terrified but again there is nothing I can do ...unfortunately!

I am still waiting for the fish request test and hopefully I will know by tomorrow, if I need chemo myself maybe after the operation...I am still a bit confused as I thought I will have my chemo,if needed ,before my operation but I will wait and see wht the Dr will day tomorrow.

I am thinking of both of you .

    We will make it !

    Good luck for Monday Elvira114

    Stay strong night night xx

  • Hi lovely,

I'm so glad you know when your operation will be, and 9th of Dec is quite soon so looks like they are all over it! Have you already discussed the operation? Will it be a lumpectomy?

Have you meanwhile heard news about the fish test? Hopefully that will give you some more news on the specifics. From my understanding they usually give chemo before surgery either when the tumor is quite large/ you have lymph node involvement, or when you are HER2 positive. I hope for you it's not necessary!

    Keep us posted please ️

  • Hi Elvira114 & Madgee,

I am pleased that he operation is so close ...hopefully I will be OK for Christmas,at home with my family!

I am having a masectomy and a reconstruction at the same time so I am a bit terrified, even if I have discussed everything with the 2 doctors.

The fish request is negative, so no chemo at the start but there might be after the operation.

I am getting my mri next week and then my pre assessment the week after.

I wish you Elvira114 good luck for Monday my dear

Madgee ,I hope you are feeling OK after ypu first chemo and you have a nice ,relaxing weekend

Have a lovely afternoon.  Be strong ,we will make it, we will beat this horrible disease.

Sending lots of love to both of you

    Xxxxx

  • Sending love to you both today girls.  You will be ok Elvira promise I will be in touch with you both soon.  Don't worry lots of water and rest when you get home. Love to you both xxxxx

  • Hi v1234,

I'm sorry I've been out the loop.  Had a few sleepy days after Chemo but turning the corner today and picking up. I'm so so glad you have a date for your operation and you can start the new year knowing it's gone and when you fully recover you will be able to enjoy life once more.  Fantastic news no Chemo required also.  I know it's daunting but it's the absolute best outcome under the circumstances.  My friend has had mastectomy and just had a reconstruction of her other breast so that they are matching and she can feel confident in her body once again.  It's all gone very well and she's making a really good recovery.  I think of you both often and am here for you and Elvira anytime.  Chemo is tiring so been off the grid for a few days but you are always in my thoughts.  Love to you ️
