    Hi Karenk,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 12 years, plus a few false alarms, so I have been through a number of biopsies. All I can say, is that the wait never gets any easier. Most of us would say that this is one of the worst parts of our cancer journey, as thereare so many unknowns and uncertainties.

I am glad to hear that you don't have much longer to wait. Try to keep yourself occupied with other distractions to help the time to pass a little quicker over the weekend.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi just joined this site reading different comments such an agonising wait for results I'm awaiting my appointment to see if my treatment has worked you feel so lonely at this moment hope all works out for you hang on in there my love thoughts are with you

  • Hi Jane and thanks for taking the time to write such a full reply. I'm not sure if they plan to remove any lymph nodes- I reckon best to do so if in any doubt. I have two locations s underd suspicion and they are 8 cm apart so Ideead to think they may take a chunk. As I am 67 I was told they don't do reconstruction on NHS over the age of 65 so I'm scared about that. Not sure how I go about even finding out what that would cost me privately.  I'll add that to my questions.
Hoping I'll get news this week as to next move.

Im so happy to hear you are ok now and your story has reassured me. Grateful . Sending love and hugs  x

  • Meant to say my biopsy was difficult. They were focussing on two areas in one breast and by the end I had two clips inserted and they must have taken at least 20 X-rays.  It was like two separate operations snd it took just over an hour.  They were so so good and kind and reassuring it made such a difference .

  • Thanks Jane,

tried to figure out how to friend you on here. I wanted to ask about private cost for reconstruction as I am 67 and I am told NHS won't do it if over 65.

    HI June,

Your reply to Karen didn't appear until after I had asked how you got on.

I'm sorry to see that you are still up and stressing about this. I don't know what your surgeon's stance is on mastectomy. Most don't want to remove so much tissue if it isn't necessary. Full removal and implant is a more complex operation. I was initially told that the result would be the same wheher I had a lumpectomy or a mastectomy.

You should certainly discuss fulll removal and implant beforehand, so that you are happy that you are having the right surgery for you..

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi

He said the cancer is in and around nipple, so it's a large area being removed and he would take it from underneath. Where the wire of bra is and luft it up into hole xx he still not sure if he will get clear margins x can I ask if they took your lymph nodes...did you have tissue from your body put in?

What treatment did you have or having after lumpectomy? Xxxxx sending love and hugs xx xxx

    Hi June,

Both of my cancers were in the lower right quadrant of my breast. I also found a larger lump in my left breast six months after lumpectomy. Fortunately, this was benign, but when I found a second lump in my right breast a year after my lumpectomy, my surgeon was happy to carry out a double mastectomy. I have previously stopped breathing under anaesthetic, so he was  prepared to do this in order to prevent another surgery if the other breast later became cancerous.

I was advised to have radiotherapy after my lumpectomy, but my first surgeon refused to test my other breast.  As a result, I refused to have this treatment while the problem with my other breast was being ignored. When I saw another surgeon 11 months after my lumpectomy, I was referred to see two eminent researchers in radiotherapy. One gentleman told me that I might as well try it still, but the other was quite insistant that there was no point in doing this when there was longer than 3 months from diagnosis. He made a better argument for his stance, so I followed his advice.

I took Tamoxifen for the first year after my lumpectomy and changed to Letrozole after I had my double mastectomy. I took this for 6½ years and stopped taking this in July 2017. I had 6 lymph nodes removed first time around. Second time, my surgeon intended to take a sample from my left

breast, but only got fatty tissueafter my mastectomy. It is normal to test the lymph nodes, so please don't worry about this, as yiou are better to know if there is any spread rather than remaining in ignorance.

I didn't have reconstruction post-mastectomy, as this would have meant another general anaesthetic and, the risk just wasn't worth it. I manage well despite this and, use a selection of prostheses for different purposes.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi

I had abtief call today from a nurse. My nurse will call me Monday...so, I was told it is a lumpectomy I am having but the cancer is also behind the nipple , so that has to be removed xx I am having estrogen blockers...and then waiting for results from my removal...prob be around 14th Oct...they will have another meeting..then tell me the plan when they know more about thier findings xx I been having bad dreams really bad...can't sleep xxx not coping very well at the moment xx I am moody. I cry, I forget things...all sorts xx hope everyone is doing the best they can xxx hugs to all of you xx

  •

    Hi June,

The way you are feeling is unfortunately, perfectly normal. Dealing with the unknown is difficult and you still have a number of unknowns to cope with. Here's hoping that, with the cancer being behind the nipple, the margin will not be too close to the chest wall. A lumpectomy followed by oestrogen blockers sound ok. They won't know whether or not any further treatment will be needed until the pathology results come back.

Try to find some task to keep you preoccupied and to help keep your mind off the wait.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi

He said something is behind nipple, he is doing 2 cires to the breast wall and lymph nodes xxxx it will be a big hole but he is cutting where the wire on bra usually is and pushing up my extra fat/tissue up to fill the hole where he is removing breast tissue xxxx

  •

    Hi June,

It sounds as if your surgeon knows what he is doing and has thought about the aesthetics afterwards. I hope that he can get enough fatty tissue to fill the hole.

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi xx I do have spare lol xxx

  • Hi June,

Good that you now know what's happening. Also sounds like he's very aware of aesthetics as Jolamine has said.
Hope you won't have long to wait now xx Keep up your strength amazing lady xx
