Sore Tongue

Hi,

My boyfriend had base of tongue cancer and just finished chemotherapy and radiotherapy mid Feb. He is having such problems with eating because everything burns his tongue. He wakes up in the morning with his tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth, when he moves his tongue it then bleeds so it's constantly sore and not healing. I was just wondering if anyone would have any solutions/recommendations to help. The oncology nurse told him about a tablet u put on ur gum at night to help with the dry mouth but it's not working very well. He just wants to eat now as he is fed up with drinking fortisips.

Thank you x

  • Hi Emma

I finished 4 weeks radiotherapy to my mouth in January this year and I can tell you I still have a sore toungue and swelling inside my cheek. I was actually thinking that it should be better than it is but reading on this site and other places it seems to be how it is. I know someone who had similar and he said he still had pain over a year later, he's been cancer free for 13 years now.

Wishing you & your boyfriend the best of luck.
