osophagus cancer diagnosis

Hi,

I have recently been diagnosed with oesophagus cancer stage 3 and have come across this forum while googling, since the middle of September, I have had a plethora of tests and have been very well treated by the hospital staff, I’m starting my FLOT treatment in 9 days’ time a regime of 4 rounds 2 weeks apart then hopefully followed by surgery and then another FLOT regime.

  • Hi Daisy,

That is such fantastic news, I am actually sitting here, all smiling and not quite sure what to do with myself or say.

What you guys must be feeling is probably beyond words. You are probably looking at each other and thinking ' did we hear the doc correctly', is it true etc etc.

Isn't it weird how we have all never met , but such news from us lot is air punchingly good.

I have fences that needs some work- if he's 'bored' like ((((::::

May Shepard's pie remain OFF the menu for many years to come ((::

    All my very best wishes

  • Hi Milly

That's great news on the eating - it's been a huge postive for me too looking at the number of issues that some people seem to acquire post op.

Just this dammed effusion to sort out - I think your Fffs deserved a few more f's, but again it's good that your consultant is not resting and pushing your case.

    Keeping the ffffaith

  • Hi Daisy

Just keeping the trend going - that's ffffantastic and brilliant news.

I'll definitely be celebrating with you this weekend once I stop all my round of meds this week.

    cheers

  • Hi Bfg,

Thanks for your reply. Dermatology went well  - vasculitis caused by a severe reaction to antibiotics as they suspected. Blood tests etc all fine. So a 6 month open appointment given - just as a precaution  - brilliant NHS again. Just to make you all smile when the doc asked the type op he'd had he almost said vasectomy lol.

CT scan on Saturday to check pleural effusion and to double check Oesophagectomy. Our consultant is outstanding as I'm sure many are in the NHS.

    Sooo

keeping the ffffaith (that made me laugh)

  • Howdee Millie58,

    Good Good,

So how is he fairing after his vasectomy then ?? Poor chap (:.

Mind you, in for a penny n'all.

Things are being 'ticked off' .

i noticed in a previous post that one of the consultants had said "he'll be walking down the high street in a year" !!!!.

I would put money on it will be way before that, yes, he has been through the mincer big style, and has had a lot of 'extra's', but I bet he'll fancy a stroll way before then.

My guy found it really really difficult initially, without all the 'extra's' , he'd go to the end of the road ('about 200yrds)and back and that was it done in for the rest of the day, then he 'pushed' it and went over the shop (about 1/4 mile, there and back) and so on. He still gets vv tired, if he does something like krypton factor style water parks (duffer), but it is really a plod, plod thing-

So glad that stuff is starting to come together for you all.

Keeping it up and keeping the faith

    Hilts

  • Hi Hilts,

Fingers crossed he will be walking further than that and sooner! He has improved since being home. Really hoping the CT scan shows the fluid has significantly reduced and his lung capacity increased. Your husband is an inspiration and yes gradual increase is the aim. Next step is hoping a coffee at a local National Trust property fingers crossed (can't do emojis as you've said too).

I normally sing in a choir so I've been doing breathing exercises with him and lots of Arhs lol. He was told at school to mime! (The good old days eh lol)

Keep it up and keeping the faith

    Milly

  • Had my PET scan Monday, they cancelled my laparoscopy on Tuesday and today I found out why.

Sadly, despite having no other symptoms than a problem swallowing my cancer has spread quickly and had gotten into my bones in several places.

So, unfortunately, I'm now off down the palliative care route. Of course I'll be making the best of a bad hand and not being too depressive about it!

Just got to get passed tomorrow when I have to inform the family...
