Be positive - my journey with triple negative breast cancer

Hi

I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in April last year. I had an MRI scan for another problem & a 4 centimetre tumour showed up which I was totally unaware of as being very large breasted I hadn't noticed anything unusual . I also had 3 cancerous lymph nodes under my left arm & due to this I was started on chemotherapy almost immediately with 4 courses of FEC & 4 courses of docetaxel & carboplatin followed by a full mastectomy & lymph node dissection in November but then I developed lymphadema in my left arm almost straight after the operation so I'm now wearing a compression sleeve & have to do daily lymph massage to help drain the fluid.
I've had my results back just before Xmas to say everything has come back negative and it's the best possible outcome for me but I still have to have a course of radiotherapy which is due to start this month which means  daily trips to the hospital for 3 weeks but hopefully once that is done things will be better for me

  • Hi Carrie

What great news that you had good results, I was diagnosed with triple negative on Nov 8th, found my thickening purely by checking myself. Scan showed it was 3cm x 3cm but i have no node involvement thankfully.

Like you I am having chemo 1st  3 Fec then 3 Docetaxol followed by a lumpectomy then rads

I had my 2nd Fec today and so far I have no nausea just a headache like I did with the 1st 1, the fun will start tomorrow when I start my daily injections to boost my white cells then the aches start.

  • Hi Linda

I hope everything goes well for you & keep yourself strong & positve throughout your journey !
chemo can be a *** but a few months of discomfort is worth it to have more years of living life to the full

  • Hi Carrie, I'm Sheridan, I have exactly your diagnosis. Though I refuse treatment, my choice, in fact 8months ago I screamed to have this 6cm tumor cut out, no, morr time wasting, needed more scans ra ra, and of course inevitably, yes spread to lymph nodes, I'm furious st lack of duty of care, and not allowed to have our choice, now not listening to my wants, all continues to get worse????? I'll keep you informed x moooo
