Just been diagnosed, BC - triple negative

Hi there,

I joined the group a couple of weeks ago after my scan and biopsy and found it useful and supportive reading what everyone is going through and their advice whilst we all face the C word!

I've now received my diagnosis and plucked up the courage to say 'HI!' :)  I'm still reading up on all the booklets i've received. A strange feeling really counting the days down to your appointment like a holiday without the excited feeling and now coming home with loads of booklets and not holiday brochures.  i feel strange that i have a sense of relief but a strange relief as I do have cancer and not the all clear.  Does anyone else have these mixed feelings?

I've been diagnosed with stage 2, grade 3 and triple negative.  Well from my understanding, i'm waiting for the confirmations to all come in the post.  I remember them saying 18 weeks chemo, 5cm tumour, lymph nodes, masectomy, radiotherapy....

I still feel very detached and like they are talking about someone else as i dont feel ill.  I was hoping to be pregnant :( so feel very sad tonight that is unlikely to happen now with my diagnosis and that i'm 42.

So mixed feelings all around tonight.

  • Hello ladies, hope you don't mind me gatecrashing your thread, but I've just read through it all and it's made me feel so much better, your all so nice and posative

I was diagnosed with triple negative BC in June, I am on my 5 of 8 cycles of chemo, these last four being Carpoplatin and paxataxil, there breaking down the paxataxil to every week, i have my last chemo on 6th January and although we shouldn't wish our lives away, I can't wait, after that it will be surgery and radiotherapy, I have three lymph nodes under my arm and two lymphs under breast, but on last scan the two under breast have cleared, I'd like to ask if any of you on paxataxil oy carboplatin have had fuzzy head, I can't explain it but fuzzy slight dizzy head, I'm at day 10, my other cycle I felt so much better by day 10, it's not really bad but just annoying as I can't drive while feeling like this. Again lovely to read all your posts and really hoping your all feeling well, xxx

  • Hey Davia

Of course not, welcome to our group that no ones want to join haha!  I was diagnosed in August so just had my 3rd course on Tuesday.  Not feeling too bad at the moment, fingers crossed it stays that way.  I have 1 more of EC then i go onto the carbo / paxo and paxo weekly.  Hope there are no major side affects of these.  How you doing on these drugs, just the dizzyness.

I have in my lymph nodes too so will have to have all of them out, little worried about the opp but one day at a time eh.  I'm also waiting on my brca test, guess they will send a letter confirming yay or nay.

Yeah i could drive for a few days after my second one, felt like i was on drugs all week!

I managed the cold cap on Tuesday, but hair is thinning quite a bit so not sure if I'll carry on .

    Hugs

    xx

  • Hi ladies,

Linda, I'm sorry you have had such a rough time. Let's hope the reduced dose will be kinder to you. You're emotions will be all over the place so it's no surprise you are tearful.

Mich how's the rash and nose bleeds?

Davia, good luck for Tuesday. I'm sure you will be fine,  I was so nervous too, It's the unknown.

Claire, how are you recovering? I'm still sore and tender but ok besides that.

On a positive note, I saw the Surgeon yesterday and I am officially cancer free. I just feel numb and guilty that I don't feel like doing cartwheels. It's really strange as I should be estatic!! I am still very scared of a reacurrance but I will learn to live with it.

Lots of love to you all and have a wonderful weekend,

    Sue xxx

  • Oh bless you Linda, you have had a really tough time of it, fingers crossed when they reduce the dose it will be better for you. Good new that the lump has gone, xxx

Sue that's amazing news,  really happy for you xxx

Have a good weekend ladies, keep well xxx

  • Hi guys,

I was diagnosed with BC earlier this year and yesterday my consultant confirmed that it is triple negative.

Scheduled for second surgery on Thursday to check lymph nodes and clear more margins. Chemotheraphy to follow after.

Thank you for all your posts, it makes me feel there is light in the tunnel after all.

    xx

  • Morning ladies,

Ah that's great news Sue, so glad to hear that. I get the numb feeling as it's been quite a rollarcoaster we have been on and no doubt we feel quite different with everything we have experienced. But we'll take this experience forward and create something positive like our Warrior group! There is a course I'm wait listed for when treatment finishes. It's arranged by Breast cancer now called moving forward. It's one day a few for a few weeks and helps you cope with getting out there after treatment and sense of normality. Ill see if I can find the link.

Aww so sorry Sue, sounds awfull. Al glad to hear they will reduce your dose and good you have your opp appointment. I'm still waiting for mine, prob come through in a few weeks.

Good luck for Tuesday  Davia. So you have much planned this weekend, maybe things to keep your mind off the opp.

I'm doing ok, was wide awake yesterday for a change and up at 4am with breakfast and steroids. Going for a walk in a mo, tomorrow the weather is going to be worse. No sore mouth whew and rash is getting better. Nose bleed is OK for now so overall a good day!

    Hey Nat05

Welcome to our group of Triple negative thrives! As you can see we are all in different stages of our treatment and getting there. It does Deff help chatting to each other about the good, bad and bleugh! So feel free to message any time you want to say hi or rant! I probably will when my steroid high wears off.

Have you had a lumpactomy or mascetomy already? Mine is in my lymph nodes so ill have those taken out too. I have 2 more chemo then I'll see the consultant about the opp and radiotherapy.

Ah and whatever you do don't Google, I scared myself shirtless! Stick to the official sites, breast cancer now, macmillan and download the Becca app.

    Big hugs ladies xxx

  • Sue, I feel exactly the same. Everyone says you must be thrilled/relieved/overjoyed but actually I'm just scared.

  • Hi Claire.

I have been told I might need more chemo as a preventative measure, has that been mentioned to you? It was a kick in the teeth as I thought I was all done with chemo. I will know for sure once i've met with the Oncologist, I will just have to wait for the appointment to come through. The thought of losing my hair all over again is sole destroying.

Hi Nat, welcome. I'm glad you have found our thread, all the ladies here are so supportive. Feel free to rant away, we all do.

What's everyone up to today? The weather here is not pleasant so I doubt I will venture out.

    loads of love and hugs,

    Sue

  • Hey Sue,

Ah that's is annoying, but guess good thing if preventative measure. Is this in place of radiotherapy? I got my consultant appointment through this weekend, it's on thr 10th march, last chemo on 6th. I see it's a different consultant, last one was a locum so guess he's moved on.

Bit weird now to be thinking about next step as my hospital visits since 17th Sep have all been about chemo. So next chapter awaits....

How's everyone doing? I went out for a walk around harbour and lunch yesterday, wasn't too windy so was nice. Today I felt bleugh, no emotions just zombie like so not in the mood for much. Still one my steroid tomorrow. I'm going to visit my friend tomorrow that has just had a kidney opp and not doing too well so be nice to have a catch up with her and take my mind off things.

    Hugs all around warriors!

  • Hi Mich

Hope you have a nice catch up with your friend today, and yes you do feel a bit strange not having to go to hospital every week for chemo, I had very mixed emotions, one respect glad it was over, but also felt a bit vunrable as not having that regular contact, it's a very weird road were on. I'm just entering the next scary stage, the op! I feel very anxious about it, about all of it, the op, the recovery, and the after effects, but as someone said yesterday, after this there is light at end of tunnel, fingers crossed

Sue, that must feel disappointing to go back to chemo, but as Mich says, good if it's preventative, let us know what they say as to why?  But they are the experts and know what's best

Claire, I get where your coming from even though I haven't got there yet , it's such a massive picture you can't just unsee it, I felt like it after chemo, everyone was so happy for me but I just felt so deflated, that confused me as I couldn't wait to be finished with it.

Love and hugs to you all

    Keep well ladies xxx

  • Hi Ladies,

I'll find out if I need more chemo after i've seen the oncologist. The surgeon said that I would probably be offered more chemo as some studies show that it can help prevent a reacurrance. My husband said to me that it sounded like I would be offered a trial but I'm not sure about any of it. My head was all over the place when I saw the Surgeon not knowing what to expect. I don't think I will have the chemo if it's a trial but if it's tried and tested then I probably will. The Surgeon did say the chemo might be taken orally but the oncologist will discuss it with me.

Mich and Davia, what surgery are you having? if it's a lumpectomy then the recovery is not that bad. I am still sore but besides that, all good. Just think, an op, radiotheraphy and then all done!! It feels surreal, very strange to be this far along the treatment plan. The hardest thing is getting your head around it all. I am struggling mentally, mostly because friends and family can't understand why i'm not jumping for joy.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend,

    Love to you all,

    Sue xx

  • Thanks Linda

Glad you enjoyed the look good feel better course.

I am not feeling to bad, not much pain, hope that doesn't change, I had all the lymph nodes removed from my left arm pit, the team surgical  were lovely, and the nurses are lovely, really look after you. I will get results from op in two weeks at surgeon follow up appointment.

Look after yourself ladies, hugs all round

  • Hey Davia,

Ah glad to hear it all went OK today and you are feeling alright. How long will u stay in hospital?

Glad to hear you are feeling more normal Linda.i had a zombie day yesterday and stayed in bed. Was good to get out today, I had my Look good workshop too! And you're right what a lovely bag of products, so chuffed and really enjoyed it.

    How u ladies doing otherwise?

    Xx

  • Hi Mich

They wanted to send me home the same day but I didn't feel comfortable with that as I was sick twice because of anaesthetic so stayed it last night, be going home today, I have a drain in but no more liquid has drained from the wound, and I'm very surprised at the amount of movement I have in arm, we will see if that continues, I have some numbness in underside of arm, but it all feels a lot better than I thought it would, so don't worry to much when it's your turn, they also give you strong pain killers.

Hope your feeling a bit brighter today,

    Keep well xxx

  • Hi Ladies,

Mich and Linda, I'm glad you enjoyed the workshop. I was so impressed with the bag of goodies and all the make-up tips. I'm happy you are feeling better Linda, I'm sure it will continue. How are you feeling Mich?

Davia, I'm glad you are doing well. You will feel better once you're home in familiar surroundings. It's really nerve racking waiting for the results, it was a long two weeks for me!!

    Take care Ladies

    xxx

  • Hi Ladies how you all doing?

Mich you must be at the end of chemo by now, have they given you a date for op?

I still have my drain in, it only stopped draining under 30ml last night, so they give you two days and see if it continues to reduce output before taking it out, I have had a nurse phone every day and come in every other day to look and change dressings. I do have numbness under arm and also in for arm, but they say that's normal and the for arm should get better in time, you get like prickling sensation and the numb area is sensative but nothing more. My energy after op has been rock bottom, and I must confess to feeling very low, but again the nurse said this happens, it's a side effect to anaesthetic, hopefully I will feel myself again soon.

Claire and Sue how are you doing after your ops? Have you started radio therapy yet? If so how is it? Hope your both feeling well xx

Linda how is it all going?

Love to you all, keep well xxxx

  • Hey Davia,

Been thinking of you ladies today, so thanks for the message and reminder :)  Sorry to hear you are uncomfortable at the mo Davia, sounds like they are keeping a good eye on you.  Have they given you exercises to do for your arm.  Its been a tough week fo rme too after the double combo!  Was so down and fatigued had to stay in bed for 2 days after i attended the workshop.  Started to feel better on Friday and not too bad this weekend.

I started the 10 000 challenge with CR UK, to do the steps each day.  Did ok over the weekend, the hoovering did help haha!  Only on about 7 000 today but sure I'll make up for it later.  I need to have something for me to focus on as my mind is wandering a bit too much and I get morbid and all foggy brain, err more than usual!

Its my last chemo this Friday, so off to my pre assessment tomorrow, fingers crossed.

How you all doing ladies? Hope you managing ok , big hugs

    xxx

  • Hi ladies, been thinking of you all but been fairly hectic with moving back to the UK.

Mich, last chemo, hooray! Sorry you felt so rough. Remind me what's next for you? Very impressed with your steps.

Davia I have the numbness too and it feels a bit lumpy under there. I'm sorry you're so low but yes, definitely a side effect of GA. Did you know you were  having all the lymph nodes removed?

Lindy, glad you enjoyed the course. How are you feeling now?

Sue, no one has said anything to me about more chemo, I would also have felt gutted! Now slightly worried that it hasn't been suggested... Do you have a date for the appointment?

I went up to the hospital yesterday and she's saying 4 weeks of RT, we've decided to do the lymph area as well as the breast. Going in on Thursday for the planning appointment and due to start treatment on 23rd but I want them to pull it forward slightly if possible. 23rd will be 6 1/2 weeks post op.

    Love to all xx

  • Hi Ladies,

Davia, I wish you a speedy recovery. Hopefully every day you will fee stronger.

Mich, well done on attempting the 10000 step challenge. I really need to get back in shape, it's easier when the weather is better. I hope you start feeling brighter soon, I know the dark days only too well.

Claire, I'm seeing the oncologist next Tuesday. I'll find out then if I need more chemo and I'll let you know what he says and the reasoning behind it. I haven't got a date for radiotherapy yet but I'm also having it for 4 weeks.

Linda, I hope you're doing ok.

    Love to you all,

    Sue XX

  • Hi Mich

They give you excersize to do, you do them three times a day, the only uncomfortable thing is when the nerves start healing, well I think that's what there doing, you get spiky feelings, i have also forgotten about the arm and reached for something or leaned on it, you certenly know about it when you do but apart from the low mood after GA it's not been as bad as I thought, when you have your op you may find 1000 steps a challenge, I have had no energy, nurse said it's normal as body is healing and clearing GA not to mention getting over chemo, so be kind to yourself when you have your op, have they given you a date yet? They normally leave you 4-6 weeks after last chemo, but no longer than 6 weeks, I also had a scan two weeks after chemo. Great news your having last chemo Friday well done xx

Oh just had phone call from nurse, she's coming out to take my drain out today, I'm such a baby, I'm now worried it's gonna hurt lol

    Hi Claire

Hope the move goes smoothly, and your healing well, fingers crossed you can get the appointment moved forward for your RT, I'm seeing the surgion on Monday so will ask him when I can start mine, I hope they don't leave it to long. Let us know how you get on at planning appointment and what they do good luck with it all xx

Sue, yes we would all be gutted if we had to have more chemo, bless you, let us know what they say and why they have mentioned more, hope your healing well from the surgery, hugs xx

    Keep well ladies xxxx
